  • Patent number: 6492327
Abstract: A method for purifying bone-derived TGF-&bgr; proteins including an anion exchange process, a cation exchange process, and a reverse phase HPLC process, and optionally, a filtration process, a Heparin-Sepharose process, and/or a reverse phase HPLC desalting process. The filtration process preferably selects proteins having a nominal molecular weight between approximately 10 kilodaltons and approximately 100 kilodaltons. Preferably, the anion exchange process uses a strongly cationic resin having quaternary amine functional groups. Preferably, the cation exchange process uses a strongly anionic resin having sulfonic acid functional groups. The TGF-&bgr; proteins can be eluted from the reverse phase HPLC column with an acetonitrile solution in combination with aqueous trifluoracetic acid. The purification processes yield highly enriched TGF-&bgr;1 and TGF-&bgr;2 proteins.

  • Publication number: 20020174122
Abstract: An architecture to enable search gateways as part of a federated search supports searching for data in one or more heterogeneous data sources. The one or more heterogeneous data sources are within a computer system. Initially, a request for data is received at a federated data source. From the federated data source, data is retrieved from one or more of one or more terminal data repositories or one or more search gateway data sources.

  • Patent number: 6466933
Abstract: A technique for delayed delivery of query results or other data from a federated server to a federated client until such information is needed. One or more commands are executed at a client computer to retrieve data from one or more datastores connected to a server computer. At the client computer, a search request is transmitted to the server computer. Then, a client collection is generated for use in retrieving physical data from the server computer. When data is requested using the client collection, physical data is retrieved from the server computer.

  • Publication number: 20020103980
Abstract: Provided is a method, system, and program for releasing storage space in a first and second storage devices. Updates to the first storage device are copied to the second storage device to provide secondary storage for the updates. A first and second tables map data sets to addresses in the first and second storage devices, respectively. A first command is detected to invalidate data sets in the first table. The addresses in the first table comprise virtual addresses, and a third table provides a mapping of the virtual addresses to physical storage locations in the first storage device. A second command is generated to update the second table to invalidate the data sets in the second storage device invalidated in the first table by the first command. A third command is detected to invalidate the virtual addresses in the third table used by the data sets invalidated in the first table to free the physical storage locations in the first storage device pointed to by the invalidated virtual addresses.

  • Publication number: 20020090955
Abstract: A system for tracking an object being provided with a tracking wireless transceiver and a positioning system in communication with the tracking wireless transceiver is disclosed. The system includes a receiver for receiving an indication that the object needs to be tracked; a pager for paging the tracking wireless transceiver; and a trigger for activating the positioning system, so that the positioning system obtains preliminary positioning information from the positioning system and relays the preliminary positioning information to the tracking wireless transceiver. The tracking wireless transceiver sends the preliminary positioning information to a central location. The system also includes a beacon for emitting a signal, which is activated when the tracking wireless transceiver has been paged.

  • Patent number: 6301643
Abstract: Disclosed is a system for maintaining consistency of data across storage devices. A cut-off time value is provided to the system. The system then obtains information on data writes to a first storage device, including information on time stamp values associated with the data writes indicating an order of the data writes to the first storage device. At least one group of data writes having time stamp values earlier in time than the cut-off time value is then formed. The system then transfers the data writes in the groups to a second storage device for storage therein.

  • Publication number: 20010019315
Abstract: An improved system for locating a stolen vehicle or the like is disclosed. The system includes a hidden transceiver such as a cellular transceiver and a positioning device such a GPS antenna and chipset located apart from the transceiver. To avoid disclosure of the location of the transceiver by following wires, the positioning device and the transceiver are in wireless communication with each other.

  • Publication number: 20010010070
Abstract: Backup storage is resynchronized to primary storage, ensuring that any new updates received during resynchronization are applied in the proper order relative to resynchronization data. Under normal operations, a data mover mirrors data stored in primary storage to backup storage. If an error condition arises, preventing mirroring, the data mover stores newly received data in primary storage without mirroring the data to backup storage. The data mover also identifies this data in an update map. When the error condition ends, the data mover performs a static resynchronization process, serving to update the backup storage with the un-mirrored data, identified in the update map. When new data is received during static resynchronization, a dynamic resynchronization process is invoked to accurately process the updates.

  • Patent number: 6260129
Abstract: Disclosed is a system for managing pages in a volatile memory device for data transfer operations between a first storage area and a second storage area. The first storage area is queried to determine a number of data sets to include in a data transfer operation. A number of pages in the volatile memory device needed for the data transfer operation is then determined. A determination is then made as to whether the number of pages needed for the data transfer operation is greater than available fixed pages in a pool of pages. Available fixed pages in the pool are allocated to the data transfer operation after determining that the number of pages needed to process the data transfer operation is less than or equal to the available fixed pages in the pool.

  • Patent number: 6130704
Abstract: A method for moving and controlling a video surveillance camera comprises the steps of: supporting a video surveillance camera for tilting movements about mutually perpendicular axes; transforming tilt and pan commands into angular movement commands; rotating the camera about the mutually perpendicular axes responsive to the angular movement commands, the video camera having a substantially hemispherical field of view as the camera is pivoted about the axes and the video camera generating a picture which is inverted relative to true horizontal over a portion of the field of view; and, automatically rotating the picture to a substantially right-side-up orientation whenever necessary, whereby a right-side-up picture is provided throughout the field of view without continuous panning rotation of the video camera. In a corresponding system, a servo mechanism tilts the video camera, a motion controller transforms the tilt and pan commands and a video signal processor rotates the picture.

  • Patent number: 6113572
Abstract: A catheter connection system is defined by a rigid, tubular stem attached at a proximal end thereof to a medical device. The stem has a plurality of engagement barbs encircling and radially, outwardly extending on an exterior surface of the stem. The engagement barbs can be configured having a variety of different sizes and positions. A locking barb also encircles and radially, outwardly extends on the surface of the stem between the medical device and the engagement barbs. A variety of fastening assemblies are provided for inwardly compressing a portion of a body wall of a selected catheter against the engagement barbs on the stem, when the stem is received in the lumen of the selected catheter. The fastening assemblies create a mechanical joinder and liquid-tight seal between the selected catheter and the stem. The selected catheter can be chosen from one of three or more catheters each having a combination of size and material composition distinct from the other of the catheters.
