  • Publication number: 20030066913
Abstract: A wheel drive assembly for sprinkler irrigation systems includes an input shaft having a first bevel gear, a wheel gear, and a reduction gear assembly interconnecting the first bevel gear and the wheel gear. The reduction gear assembly has a first spur gear and a second bevel gear mounted on a common shaft. First and second input openings are disposed on respective sides of a housing of the wheel drive assembly. An input shaft extends through one of the input openings, and the other input opening is covered by a cover member. The housing has threaded bolt holes for attaching the housing to a support tower in selected positions. The wheel drive assembly is convertible between left-hand and right-hand operation by reversing the mounting position of the second bevel gear on the common shaft, interchanging the input shaft and cover member, and rotating the housing to a different mounting position.

  • Patent number: 6493185
Abstract: The present invention provides an optimized pad design for a slider that minimizes the effect of mask alignment tolerances to allow for a more consistent N58 pad area and hence a more controllable burnish rate of the protruding pad. The protruding pad includes a first portion and a second portion formed by processing material to form the first and second portion wherein at least a quantity of the first portion comprises a first material type and the second portion comprises a second material type, the protruding pad further comprising a boundary interface separating the first material type from the second material type, the boundary interface having a position on the first portion that is dependent upon an alignment tolerance for the processing and that defines a surface area for the material of the second type, wherein the surface area of the material of the second type is negligibly affected by the position of the boundary interface.

  • Publication number: 20020073661
Abstract: A shrink-wrap packaging system comprising a supply of shrink-wrap film, a sealer system and an oven. The sealer system includes a hot-knife assembly, which encapsulates items being packaged by cutting, joining and sealing layers of shrink-wrap film that an operator fits around the items. The hot knife includes a double-edged blade having an electrical surface heater element fixed thereto. The heater element comprises a first layer of electrical insulation fixed directly to the blade, a serpentine resistive film deposited on the first layer and a second layer of insulation covering the resistive film. The oven includes a tunnel in which the encapsulated items are heated to form a shrink-wrap package. The oven includes heat exchangers that mount adjacent the tunnel. The heat exchangers generate heat via an array of electrical surface heater elements similar to those mounted on the hot knife.

  • Patent number: 6344949
Abstract: Flying height Adjustment for Air Bearing Sliders An air bearing slider for sliding over a medium surface of a recording medium and having an air bearing surface facing the disk surface, a back surface perpendicular to the air bearing surface and a head at the back surface. During operation the head is maintained at a flying height above the disk surface with the aid of a flying height adjustment mechanism consisting of one or more ducts, each having an inlet at the air bearing surface and an outlet at the back surface. A valve mechanism controls an air flow through the duct or ducts by opening and closing the valve or valves together or independently. Alternatively, a deformable surface feature located on the back surface of the slider is used to alter the air flow to thus control the flying height. The mechanism of the invention allows one to achieve accurate flying height control in a range between 5 and 50 nm and between 0 nm and 15 nm as required for near-field or contact disk drives.

  • Patent number: 6125005
Abstract: An air bearing slider for supporting a magnetic read/write head on a moving disk includes at least one front force carrying pad located in front of a suspension pivot point of an air bearing slider, at least one rear force-carrying pad located behind the suspension pivot point of the air bearing slider, and a trailing-edge pad having a magnetic read/write head embedded in a rear portion of the trailing-edge pad. Each front force-carrying pad carries a front air bearing force that is generated by a relative motion between a surface of the disk and the slider when the surface of the disk has a predetermined disk velocity with respect to the slider. Each rear force-carrying pad carries a rear air bearing force that is generated by the relative motion between the surface of the disk and the slider. The trailing edge pad carries substantially no air bearing force.

  • Patent number: 4058849
Abstract: By means of a suitable data entry device such as an electronic digitizing tablet or graph board, items of data respectively defining the original configuration of a roughly sketched object and the desired final proportions thereof are entered into a stored table called a "pointing sequence list" (PSL), which is capable of storing all of the information required to define both the original form and the desired final configuration of the object. Initially the PSL contains positional entries representing the coordinates of definitive points on the roughly sketched object and dimensional entries specifying the proportions which the object is to have in its final delineation, all arranged in an order corresponding to a predefined pointing sequence which is followed by the operator when he enters the necessary items of graphic information into the system.
