    Abstract: A highly absorbent sponge is disclosed which comprises a layer of compressed sponge-like material laminated with at least one layer of woven or non-woven fabric-like material, such as cotton gauze or cotton batting. Alternative embodiments of the invention are shown wherein the laminated layers are held together either by an adhesive or a sewn thread.
