    Abstract: An over-the-wire heat exchange catheter includes a heat transfer extension having at least one supply lumen and at least one return lumen for circulating heat exchange fluid within the catheter. The catheter has a distal tip and valve attached to the distal tip. The valve automatically seals the distal tip around a guidewire or a mandrel to seal the heat transfer extension and inhibit escape of the heat transfer fluid from the heat transfer extension.

    Abstract: A catheter includes a sealed multi-lumen heat transfer extension designed to internally circulate a coolant, and thereby cool tissue or fluid surrounding the catheter. The heat transfer extension includes a tube having a distally positioned region that coils about the tube's longitudinal axis. The tube houses multiple lumens running longitudinally along the tube. These lumens include one or more supply lumens and one or more return lumens. A distal fluid exchange reservoir resides at the tube's tip, for the purpose of redirecting fluid from the supply lumen(s) to the return lumen(s). The heat transfer extension may include a shape memory structure causing the heat transfer extension to vary its shape according to temperature. Namely, the extension assumes a coiled shape under predetermined shape-active temperatures, and it assumes a non-coiled shape under other predetermined shape-relaxed temperatures.

    Abstract: Catheters including a rugged, reusable proximal body and a disposable distal body attached by a releasable connection are provided. The reusable proximal body is constructed from resterilizable materials such as glass, metal alloys and engineering plastics. The disposable distal body, designed for one-time use, is made from reliable but inexpensive materials. The catheters may be dilatation catheters and may be manufactured in any configuration, including rapid exchange, balloon-on-a-wire, and over-the-wire designs with single or multiple lumens. The modular construction of the catheter and releasable connection provides for rapid and easy changes in the configuration and balloon size depending on the needs of the medical procedure.

    Abstract: A catheter according to the present invention includes a multiple lumen catheter for delivery of a liquid embolic composition through a first lumen and delivery of a solidification agent through a second lumen. The catheter allows adjustment of the relative longitudinal position of the two lumens to control the solidification of the embolic composition within a blood vessel. The multiple lumen catheter system is used by inserting the catheter endovascularly into an aneurysm site and injecting a liquid embolic composition through the first lumen while injecting a solidification agent through the second lumen to wash the area of the aneurysm of blood which has become saturated with solvent, while replacing it with a fresh solidification agent.

    Abstract: A miniaturized obstruction treatment device, e.g., a resilient brush, particularly adapted for medical use formed at the distal end of an elongated brush drive shaft having a hollow lumen formed therein for introduction over a guidewire. The brush drive shaft is enclosed in the lumen of a brush delivery catheter, and the brush is adapted to be garaged in a distal end section of the brush delivery catheter lumen. A Y-connector and a brush sub-assembly connector are attached to the proximal end of the brush delivery catheter and form a brush sub-assembly with the brush drive shaft and brush. The Y-connector allows infusion of thrombolytic agents into the brush delivery catheter lumen for emission at the distal end opening thereof adjacent the brush. In use, the brush sub-assembly connector connects the brush sub-assembly with a drive motor unit connector of a drive motor unit. The drive motor unit receives the proximal end of the drive shaft and rotates it to rotate the brush bristles.

    Abstract: A miniaturized brush particularly adapted for medical use formed at the distal end of an elongated brush drive shaft having a hollow lumen formed therein for introduction over a guidewire. The brush drive shaft is enclosed in the lumen of a brush delivery catheter and other components of a brush sub-assembly adapted to deliver infusate through the catheter lumen and to be coupled to a drive motor unit for rotating the brush drive shaft and brush. The brush bristles of the distal brush are adapted to be garaged in a distal end section of the brush delivery catheter lumen during introduction through a body lumen. The brush bristles are formed of a thin sheet of rigid plastic material that is shaped to have a plurality of fringe elements extending in parallel from a mounting web. The mounting web is wound about and attached to a distal end section of the drive shaft outer circumference so that the fringe elements extend outward from the drive shaft surface and obliquely of the drive shaft axis.

    Abstract: A storage and dispensing apparatus for a springy guide wire used in medical procedures includes a coiled tubular portion defined by elongate tubing with a bore for receiving the guide wire. A ring section includes a tangential portion of the tubing defining an open end from which the guide wire may be dispensed. Adjacent to the tangential portion, the tubing defines a pair of spaced apart openings from which the guide wire respectively exits and reenters the tubing. Intermediate the pair of openings the tubing defines a curved external surface across which the guide wire runs externally of the tubing and is manually accessible for advancing and retracting movements impelled by a user's thumb, for example. The guide wire defines a pair of gentle S-shaped bends adjacent to the ends of the externally-exposed curved section, which bends cause the guide wire to engage sufficiently with the storage and dispensing apparatus to resist self-ejection.
