Publication number: 20110118938Abstract: A vehicle control system having a controller and a spatial database adapted to provide spatial data to the controller at control speed. The spatial data provided from the spatial database to the controller can be any kind of data or information that has some relationship or association with “real world” geographical location, or if it is stored somehow with reference to geographical location. The spatial data received by the controller from the database forms at least part of the control inputs that the controller operates on to control the vehicle. The fact that the controller operates directly on information that is inherently associated with “real world” geographic location represents a change in thinking compared with existing vehicle control systems. In particular, it means that the control system of the present invention “thinks” directly in terms of spatial location.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 16, 2010Publication date: May 19, 2011Inventors: Andrew John MacDonald, David Robert Reeve, Campbell Robert Morrison

Patent number: 7915954Abstract: Methods and apparatus for amplifier AM and PM predistortion and autocalibration. AM and PM amplifier distortion can be corrected using predistortion. The AM and PM distortion characteristics of the amplifier are determined using an autocalibration technique. The amplifier characteristics can be stored in distinct look up tables. Alternatively, the inverse of the amplifier characteristics can be stored in distinct look up tables. Signals that are to be amplified are characterized in polar format having a phase component with a normalized magnitude and a magnitude component. The phase component can be predistorted by applying the inverse of the PM distortion characteristics to the signal. Similarly, the magnitude component can be predistorted by applying the inverse of the AM distortion characteristics to the signal. The predistorted phase component can be amplified using the previously characterized amplifier.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 2004Date of Patent: March 29, 2011Assignee: QUALCOMM, IncorporatedInventors: Arun Raghupathy, Puay Hoe See, Gurkanwal Kamal Sahota, Robert Reeves, Paul E. Publication number: 20090158645Abstract: The invention provides a method by which high moisture low rank coal or other carbonaceous material may be transformed into a high-energy, water resistant product. The raw feed is comminuted then mechanically compacted by a roller press with rolls of a specified profile to mobilize the inherent moisture and collapse most of the interstitial pore space. The mobilized moisture is then removed by low-temperature drying and the material is sized and shaped to form a product that is resistant to re-absorption of water or other liquids. The present invention will promote the use of low rank coal for liquefaction and gasification.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 1, 2008Publication date: June 25, 2009Inventors: Robert R. Publication number: 20060163795Abstract: In a high-speed copier or printer, a set of sheets is occasionally withheld while a finisher performs an operation such as compiling and stapling. When the operation of the finisher resumes, a set of buffered sheets is conveyed as a stack into a sloped compiler tray. An upper compiler member, such as a flapper, pushes the top sheet of the stack toward the backstop of the compiler tray, while a lower compiler member pushes the bottom sheet of the stack toward the backstop of the compiler tray. In this way, all of the sheets are aligned against the backstop, such as for stapling.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 27, 2005Publication date: July 27, 2006Inventor: Robert Reeves

Publication number: 20060163802Abstract: A buffer device temporarily retains a number of sheets between a printing apparatus and a finisher, such as a stacker-stapler. The device defines a baffle for the passage of sheets therethrough. Arranged in series in the baffle is a set of gates. Each gate is positionable in an open position or a clamping position that causes a sheet passing nearby to be stopped. By clamping each of a set of sheets as it passes through the baffle, and then setting all the gates to the open position, an accumulated set of sheets can be conveyed out of the baffle substantially simultaneously.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 27, 2005Publication date: July 27, 2006Inventors: Robert Reeves, Joao Morais
