An aspect of the invention includes a low molarity and low pH composition for use in detecting the presence of ATP. The low molarity and low pH composition can be used in combination with methods for reading, calculating and interpreting luminescence generated by the ATP-luciferin-luciferase reaction. Both the low molarity, low pH composition and the methods for reading, calculating and interpreting luminescence can be used with a single service hygiene monitoring format.

    Abstract: A new depressant composition is provided for the enhanced separation into separate value metal concentrates of copper, nickel, zinc, lead present in polymetallic and massive sulphide ores.The depressant is added in an aqueous solution prepared by dissolving first a mixture of quebrachio and dextrin, or quebracho and guar gum. To the solution of modified quebracho a water soluble salt of lignin sulphonate is added. The aqueous polymer of modified quebracho lignin sulphonate is further mixed with one or more of the following inorganic reagents: water soluble cyanide, metal sulphates and water soluble sulphites. The resulting depressant is added together with conventional flotation reagents in conventional mineral separation stages as required.

    Abstract: This invention relates to the development of a viable metallurgical process capable of treating low grade concentrates, bulk concentrates, dirty concentrates, or ore directly for the recovery of non-ferrous metals such as zinc, lead, copper, and precious metals and accordingly is significant to the development of massive fine grained sulphide ore bodies found throughout the world. The process involves the consecutive steps of sulphatizing roasting in a fluidized bed reactor, a two stage leach, metal recovery from solution by conventional processes such as electrowinning and precipitation, and recycling of residue wash waters and leach liquors containing high concentrations of iron and minor impurity elements to the roaster or a spray dryer for thermal decomposition. Simple and efficient rejection of iron from the circuit to residue as stable hematite is the net result of the recirculation and thermal decomposition.

    Abstract: Combustible, solid radioactive waste, such as paper, plastics, rubber, cloth and wood, are reduced in volume to an ash residue using pyrohydrolysis, a method which combines pyrolysis of the waste in a vessel at temperatures in the range of 500.degree. to 700.degree. C. and gasification of residual carbon with superheated steam. Pressures of 1.0 to 3.5 MPa are used with steam flows in the range 4 to 50 grams/second/cubic meter so that carbon containing components of the waste are removed as gaseous decomposition products in the form of carbon monoxide and hydrogen leaving an ash residue.

C.

    Abstract: Residues containing lead as lead sulphate and silver in the form of native silver or silver chloride, sulfide or sulphate, as well as silver complexes with other metals, and resulting from the roasting and leaching of sulfide concentrates containing lead, zinc, copper, and silver are treated to produce a high grade lead and silver product containing lead predominantly as calcium plumbate in a process wherein the residue is leached with brine, the resultant leach solution treated with lime to precipitate lead as oxychlorides, and the resultant lime-oxychloride precipitate is calcined to produce a mixture of calcium orthoplumbate and lead oxide. Residual chloride can be washed easily from this product which may then be treated in a lead blast furnace to recover lead and associated silver in their elemental state.
