  • Patent number: 9411110
Abstract: A fiber optic assembly includes a connector and a cover received over an end face of the connector. The connector includes a ferrule through which an optical fiber extends to the end face of the connector. An end of the optical fiber is polished proximate to the end face. The cover the cover includes a rigid end cap and a form-fitting material within the end cap overlaying the polished end of the optical fiber. The cover is configured to limit access of particulates to the end face of the connector and draw loose particulates of dust and debris from the end face of the connector upon removal from the connector.

  • Patent number: 9411657
Abstract: A sparse array is partitioned into first partitions and a second array is partitioned into second partitions based on an invariant relationship between the sparse array and the second array. The sparse array and the second array are associated with a computation involving the sparse array and the second array. The first partitions and the corresponding second partitions are distributed to workers. A different first partition and corresponding second partition is distributed to each of the workers. Third partitions of the sparse array and corresponding fourth partitions of the second array are determined based on the invariant relationship and measurements of load are received from each of the workers. At least one of the first partitions and the corresponding second partition is different from one of the third partitions and the corresponding fourth partition. The at least one of the first partitions and the corresponding second partition that is different is redistributed among the workers.

  • Patent number: 9411861
Abstract: A method, apparatus and program product are provided for performing a query of a database. A database query is received, which includes first and second operations respectively configured to generate first and second disjoint results sets from a dataspace. The database query is analyzed to identify a set of attributes from the dataspace that are used by at least one of the first and second operations in the database query. During execution of the database query, a plurality of records from the dataspace is iteratively processed in a single pass, including, for each of the plurality of records, processing such record by retrieving the plurality of attributes for such record from the dataspace and performing each of the first and second operations on the record using the retrieved attributes for such record to build the first and second disjoint results sets.

  • Patent number: 9412017
Abstract: A computing device acquires a video of a tax document utilizing a video camera such as a webcam. The video is analyzed to detect a first motion of the tax document, such as sufficient shaking or movement of the tax document, satisfying first pre-determined criteria that results in the computing device being prompted or requested by the user to take an image of the tax document. After the first pre-determined criteria has been satisfied, the user is instructed to hold the tax document steady. Subsequent video frames are analyzed to detect a second motion or the tax document being sufficiently still or steady, in response to which an image of the tax document is acquired and processed to extract data of the tax document from the acquired image and populate corresponding fields of the electronic tax return.

  • Patent number: 9409832
Abstract: A catalytic process for dehydration of an aliphatic C2-C6 alcohol to its corresponding olefin is disclosed. The process continuously flows through a reaction zone a liquid phase containing an aliphatic C2-C6 alcohol to contact a non-volatile acid catalyst at a reaction temperature and pressure to at least partially convert the aliphatic C2-C6 alcohol in the liquid phase to its corresponding olefin. The reaction pressure is greater than atmospheric pressure and the reaction temperature is above the boiling point of the olefin at reaction pressure, but below the critical temperature of the alcohol, and the olefin product is substantially in the gaseous phase. After the contacting step, the olefin containing gaseous phase is separated from the liquid phase. The invention also relates to catalytic processes such as a hydrolysis of an olefin to an alcohol, an esterification, a transesterification, a polymerization, an aldol condensation or an ester hydrolysis.

  • Patent number: 9411831
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes automatically and without user input grouping one or more images captured by a first user into clusters of particular moments based at least in part on metadata associated with one or more of the images or data determined through analysis of one or more of the images. Each particular moment being associated with a particular geo-location and time. The method also includes, for each of one or more of the clusters, determining curating information corresponding to the cluster based at least in part on the metadata associated with images in the cluster, the data determined through analysis of images in the cluster, or social-graph information associated with images in the cluster; and providing the clusters of images and at least some of the curating information corresponding to them for display on a computing device of the first user.

  • Patent number: 9408536
Abstract: An example system and method of locating a source of a heart rhythm disorder are disclosed. In accordance with the method, a first pair of cardiac signals is processed to define a first coefficient associated with variability of the first pair of signals at a first region of the heart. Further, a second pair of cardiac signals is processed to define a second coefficient associated with variability of the second pair of signals at a second region of the heart. Thereafter, the first coefficient of variability is compared to the second coefficient of variability to determine a direction towards the source of the rhythm disorder.
