  • Patent number: 11949650
Abstract: A system and method for improving network performance of DNS queries. The system includes a terminal which receives DNS queries from a customer premise equipment (CPE), and supplies matching DNS records in response to the queries. The terminal monitors all traffic from the CPE and generates a preload list containing domains and a time schedule at which name resolution should be requested for the domains. A DNS preload client in the CPE receives the preload list from the terminal, and submits preload DNS queries for name resolution of domains contained in the preload list at times specified in the time schedule. Preload records supplied in response to the preload DNS queries are stored by the CPE and used to resolve DNS queries from applications installed on the CPE.

  • Patent number: 11438763
Abstract: A process for improving network performance in systems that utilize secure domain name system (DNS) schemes. Encrypted DNS requests from devices in a local area network (LAN), such as a home or office, are submitted to a local proxy which stores cached DNS records. The proxy decrypts or examines at least a portion of the DNS request in order search for a matching record in its storage. Matching records are retrieved, encrypted, and supplied to the requesting device to satisfy the DNS request. If the proxy does not contain a matching record, the DNS query is encrypted and submitted to an external DNS server for resolution. The matching record can optionally be saved by the proxy prior to being supplied to the requesting device.

  • Patent number: 10499279
Abstract: A system and method for association of remote nodes with respective aggregation nodes in a high capacity shared bandwidth communications network, is provided. A gateway receives an association request message from a terminal device, wherein the association request message includes a service signature and service parameters of the terminal device. The gateway determines whether the association request message reflects a valid request based on the service signature. The gateway determines service requirements of the terminal device, based on a correspondence between the service parameters and associated information of a service requirement database of the gateway. The gateway determines whether it is configured for servicing the service requirements of the terminal device. The gateway transmits an association accept message, including one or more association parameters.

  • Patent number: 10432298
Abstract: A method and apparatus for dynamically balancing traffic loads in a communications system (such as satellite communications systems), based on a control of collision rates via the real-time control of throughput of channels of the communications system (such as a real time throughput of random access channels in a satellite network). The method and apparatus generates and transmits to remote nodes or terminals an operating probability based on the determined throughput for transmission using the communications channel. Also, the method and apparatus includes receiving by at least one terminal the generated operating probability and determining by the at least one terminal a transmission probability for the communications channel based upon the received operating probability, which can further be adjusted by one or more of a received upper or lower limit of the generated operating probability or a collision rate for the communications channel.

  • Patent number: 10367746
Abstract: An approach for classification of a data traffic session over a data communications network is provided. A network device receives data packets of the data traffic session. The network device determines a plurality statistical factors that characterize the data traffic session based on the received data packets. The network device analyzes the determined statistical factors in relation to a plurality of classification variables, and classifies the data traffic session as being one of a plurality of session priority types based on the analysis, wherein each of a plurality of subsets of the classification variables delineates the plurality of session priority types over a continuum with respect to a corresponding one of the statistical factors.

  • Patent number: 10367578
Abstract: An approach is provided for delivering high throughput inroute bandwidth to a terminal in a shared bandwidth satellite communications system. A backlog level of each of a number of remote terminals is monitored, wherein the backlog level of each terminal reflects an amount of data traffic awaiting transmission via an inroute channel of the communications system. When it is determined that the backlog level of one terminal meets a first threshold level, the terminal is assigned to an express priority bandwidth allocation stage. The backlog level of the terminal is monitored while assigned to the express priority stage. When it is determined that the backlog level of the terminal has fallen below a second threshold level, the terminal is removed from the express priority stage. Further, a probability is applied to a qualifying terminal, where the probability controls whether the terminal is assigned to the express priority bandwidth stage.

  • Patent number: 9973580
Abstract: An approach is provided for reliable provision of targeted, status-based messaging to a client terminal in a computer network, such as a wide area resource-based network. A terminal node receives a message originating from a client terminal, wherein the terminal node serves as an entry point to, and services communications connections over, a wide area network for the client terminal. The terminal node determines that the message comprises an initiation request for establishing a communications connection over the wide area network between the client terminal and a remote server, and that an intercept state is in effect. The terminal node establishes the communications connection as a local connection between the client terminal and the terminal node, and services the communications connection via a local server function, wherein the servicing of the communications connection via the local server function comprises a provision of status-based messaging to the client terminal.
