  • Patent number: 5019167
Abstract: Improved rosin ester compositions are provided having diminished tendency toward hazing concomitant with good viscosity stability when employed in adhesive systems such as hot melt adhesive systems. Addition of zinc composition to rosin ester formulations in an effective amount serves to secure these improvements. Zinc oxide, zinc hydroxide and zinc salts of organic acids are suitable for employment with zinc resinates being preferred in accordance with the practice of certain embodiments.

  • Patent number: 5018152
Abstract: A switched cavity laser system which includes a resonant cavity, a gain medium within the resonant cavity, a cavity switch and an output coupler. A controllable pump energy source delivers pump energy to the gain medium in response to an energy control signal. A detector is coupled with the gain medium and generates a detector signal in response to the amount of population inversion exhibited by the gain medium. A control circuit is coupled to the detector and controllable pump energy source for generating the energy control signal in response to the detector signal. As the switching rate of the Q-switch is varied, the energy control signal varies to ensure a constant level of population inversion between each pulse. In this matter, a prespecified pulse energy is achieved for each pulse independent of the switching rate of the Q-switch.

  • Patent number: 4813849
Abstract: A screw-type fluid pump is provided with an elongate casing having a surface defining an internal fluid flow space and a screw within the flow path, fixed to the casing, and having a plurality of flights for continuously conveying fluid from an inlet on the casing to an outlet for appropriate disposition as the screw and casing are rotated. A conduit/torque tube extends through the screw in axially overlapping relationship with the casing over no more than one third the axial extent of the screw at the upper region of the casing. The conduit/torque tube establishes communication between a plurality of pockets between screw turns and the atmosphere to effect pressure equalization so that cavitation in the fluid flow space is prevented as the screw is operated. The conduit/torque tube also transmits the force from a rotary drive to the screw.

  • Patent number: 4673825
Abstract: An uninterruptible power supply including a transformer having a first input winding normally coupling an inverter AC source with a critical AC load, which transformer also includes a second input winding operable to supply power from a bypass source to the load in the event of malfunction of the inverter circuit. The inverter is of the four-quadrant pulse-width-modulated type, thereby to permit recharging of the battery which serves as the DC source to the inverter. An inductance is provided for varying the phase relationship between a utility voltage source and the inverter voltage to produce minimum real inverter current and the "break-even" operating conduction, and a step-up device is provided for increasing the utility voltage to further minimize the break-even inverter current required during normal operation, and to maximize the through-put efficiency.

  • Patent number: 4547100
Abstract: A cutting tool with precisely adjustable disposable cutting inserts. In the preferred embodiment of a face milling cutter, the tool utilizes insert holding cartridges mounted in cavities spaced about the periphery of the cutter body, each cartridge including an insert mounting pocket for presenting each insert such that its cutting portion extends beyond a face of the cutter body. The insert mounting portion of each cartridge is rendered flexible by a slot in the cartridge body. A wedge mechanism adjacent each cartridge causes the cartridge to bend in a manner such that the insert cutting tip will traverse an arcuate path thereby finally and precisely varying the extent to which the cutting portion of the insert extends beyond the cutter body face.
