  • Publication number: 20120089279
Abstract: Heavy equipment is designed for operation in a substantially-repetitive work cycle that includes lifting, rotating, and lowering steps. The heavy equipment includes a generator, an electrical bus, an energy storage component, and working components. The generator provides a substantially constant electrical output to the electrical bus, which is communicated to the working components. As such, the working components of the heavy equipment are driven directly or indirectly by the electrical output of the generator. The controller selectively couples the energy storage component to the electrical bus, and the energy storage component is configured to store electricity provided by the generator, and to provide electricity to the working components by way of the electrical bus.

  • Patent number: 7987058
Abstract: A monitoring device to detect an indication of reverse power flow across a monitored transformer. The monitoring device adapted to handle a series of phase angle differences between a monitored current and a monitored voltage and establish a baseline phase angle difference after the network protector closes to connect the monitored transformer to a distribution network. The monitoring device working to establish a baseline phase angle even when a measured value for the magnitude of the monitored current has a reversed polarity from an actual current flowing from the monitored transformer or when the monitored current and the monitored voltage are not taken from the same phase from the monitored transformer. The monitoring device adapted to detect a significant change in phase angle difference from the baseline phase angle difference as an indication of reverse power flow. This abstract is intended as a tool to help others locate a relevant disclosure and not as a guide to the scope of the claims.

  • Publication number: 20110135502
Abstract: A hydraulic reservoir includes a container having an internal volume, an internal wall dividing the internal volume of the container into a first section and a second section for separately containing the hydraulic fluid, and two one-way valves. The first one-way valve allows the hydraulic fluid to be drawn out of the first section of the hydraulic reservoir and substantially prevents a flow of the hydraulic fluid back into the first section. The second one-way valve allows the hydraulic fluid to be returned to the second section of the hydraulic reservoir and substantially prevents a flow of the hydraulic fluid out of the second section. A cooling/filtering loop may connect the second section and the first section such that the used fluid in the second section may be processed and returned to the first section in a substantially unused condition.

  • Publication number: 20110056192
Abstract: A hydraulic system includes a plurality of pumps that provide pressurized fluid to a plurality of hydraulic actuators some of which work more that others. That system is controlled by producing a usage value for each of the plurality of pumps which indicates an amount that the respective pump has worked. One of the pumps is assigned to each hydraulic actuator in response to the usage values. The pumps with lower usage values are assigned to hydraulic actuators which work more, so as to equalize the use of each pump. The assignment of pumps to hydraulic actuators changes with changes in the usage values for the plurality of pumps. When a given one of the plurality of hydraulic actuators is to operate, hydraulic fluid is routed from the assigned pump to that given one of the plurality of hydraulic actuators.

  • Patent number: 7835472
Abstract: Methods to test the operation of the pick-up coil without having to de-energize the power line serving as the power line carrier in order to perform testing on the pick-up coil. A sweep wave is introduced and parameters of the pick-up coil can be measured to detect the presence or absence of resonant behavior indicative of the health of the pick-up coil. Testing capabilities may be incorporated into a power line carrier receiver and use the connections between the pick-up coils and the receiver to perform the pick-up coil test. Several methods for evaluating the pick-up coil response to a series of test inputs of different frequencies are presented. These methods could be incorporated in a pick-up coil testing device that is independent of a receiver.

  • Patent number: 7826538
Abstract: Use of power line carrier communications which introduces a high frequency analog signal onto a cable used to convey power in a portion of an electric distribution network to send a data communication received at a distant receiver through the use of pick-up coil. Changes in the power level of signals received from a remote power line carrier transmitter may indicate that the pick-up coil receiving the signal is starting to degrade. The aggregation of certain power line carrier conveyed data communications about remote transformers and related equipment may be used to look for problems in this transmitter/receiver communication network. The disclosure includes the aggregation of data communications from one transmitter received at several different power line carrier pick-up coils through the phenomenon of cross talk or through the purposeful provision of data along an alternative communication path.

  • Patent number: 7808128
Abstract: Network protectors isolate the secondary side of a transformer from a load distribution network. It is useful to have information about the electrical parameters for the transformer and the load side of an open network protector and it is useful to have access to electrical parameters for a closed network protector. Information about a network protector can be provided to a transmitter used to convey information about the transformer associated with that network protector so that information about the network protector can be sent over power liner carrier to a centralized receiver.
