Abstract: An example variable transmission system is provided. As an example, a variable transmission system may include a frame, an output hub coupled to the frame, a first linear actuator coupled to the frame, and a second linear actuator coupled to the frame. The variable transmission system may also include a tension-bearing element positioned around the output hub. A first end of the tension-bearing element may be coupled to the first linear actuator, and a second end of the tension-bearing element may be coupled to the second linear actuator. The tension-bearing element may include a variable stiffness profile such that a transmission ratio of the output hub may be adjusted based on a position of the second linear actuator relative to the output hub.

  • Publication number: 20160024723
Abstract: A dry polymer cement overlay for trafficked pavement substrates (both asphalt and concrete). The dry polymer cement overlay is a thin overlay that can handle the load of traffic in a relatively short time and has a relatively long life cycle. Moreover, the dry polymer cement overlay can hold aggregate that is applied on the surface of dry polymer cement overlay before it cures in order to provide a friction surface. A stencil is used during application of a dry polymer cement layer to provide a patterned overlay that includes patterns separated by gullies. The patterned dry polymer cement overlay exhibits improved performance including short and long term substrate adhesion, reduced risk of delamination, safety through improved surface runoff and enhanced visibility, improved macro and micro friction, reflective crack management, and withstands higher deflections under heavy loads. The patterned dry polymer cement overlay may also reduce noise and improve aesthetics.

  • Publication number: 20150306333
Abstract: The disclosure relates to medical tubes and methods of manufacturing medical tubes. The tube may be a composite structure made of two or more distinct components that are spirally wound to form an elongate tube. For example, one of the components may be a spirally wound elongate hollow body, and the other component may be an elongate structural component also spirally wound between turns of the spirally wound hollow body The tube need not be made from distinct components, however. For instance, an elongate hollow body formed (e.g., extruded) from a single material may be spirally wound to form an elongate tube. The elongate hollow body itself may in transverse cross-section have a thin wall portion and a relatively thicker or more rigid reinforcement portion. The tubes can be incorporated into a variety of medical circuits or may be employed for other medical uses.

  • Publication number: 20150298340
Abstract: An apparatus for perforating sheet materials is disclosed. The apparatus includes a perforation blade that defines a plurality of teeth for perforating sheet materials, such as tissue products. Each tooth on the perforation blade is defined by a pair of opposing side walls. The teeth are separated along an edge of the perforation blade by a plurality of recesses. In accordance with the present disclosure, the side walls have a non-zero angle with respect to the length direction of the blade. In one embodiment, each recess can have a slanted U-shape such that all of the side walls are parallel. In an alternative embodiment, the recesses can have a V-shape such that adjacent side walls extend in divergent directions. Perforation blades made according to the present disclosure prevent snagging and picking when a material is perforated.
