  • Publication number: 20050198637
Abstract: A computing device includes an operating system that manages an application and maintains threads relating thereto, where each thread has assigned attributes and the operating system executes each thread according to each attribute thereof. An interface process of the application receives a thread with a request for the application, sets an attribute of the request/thread to enforce a limitation within the application, and forwards the request/thread to the application for further processing in accordance with the limitation to produce a result. The interface process thereafter receives the same thread with the result from the application, resets the attribute of the result/thread to remove the limitation outside of the application, and forwards the result/thread for delivery to the requester. Thus, the interface process ensures by way of setting and resetting the attribute on the thread that the limitation on the application is satisfied.

  • Publication number: 20040000095
Abstract: A dual function window security means for a double hung casement window includes an elongated hollow tube having spaced apart tube apertures along the elongated hollow tube; a hollow piston means having spaced apart piston apertures along the piston means, which is telescopically connected to the elongated hollow tube; a locking mechanism to interlock the elongated hollow tube and the piston means through the apertures; and an orientation sensor positioned inside the hollow piston means near one end. When in use, one positions the window to a desired opening, and places the window security means between the window panel edge and the window sash. Using this device, the window can be opened and locked at a desired level, which prevents an unauthorized entrant through the window from outside. If the window security means is tilted from a predetermined orientation, the orientation sensor activates and generates alarming signals.

  • Patent number: 5970472
Abstract: A method is described of providing dealer authorization information to a remote processing system. A local processing system receives information from a manufacturer for updating a database of authorized dealers. The local processing system then receives a validation request from the remote processing system via a network. In response to receiving the validation request, the local processing system queries the database and transmits information to the remote processing system, including an indication of whether a particular dealer is an authorized dealer for one or more manufacturers. The validation request is generated in response to the remote processing system's having identified a predetermined HTML tag in a dealer World Wide Web page. Capability to recognize the tag and transmit a validation request in response thereto is provided by a Web browser plug-in downloaded to the remote processing system. The local processing system may also include a number of order processing units for electronic commerce.

  • Patent number: 5919016
Abstract: A blind fastener system comprises(a) an outer sleeve (2) comprising a flange (4) at one end, which sleeve (2) is provided with a counterbore (9) at the end adjacent to the flange (4), and a relatively thin wall section (8) which extends from the flange (4) and terminates in an abutment surface (12) and;(b) an inner sleeve (14) having an inner threaded bore (20), which inner sleeve (14) comprises a head portion (16) which terminates in a shoulder (22) and a second portion (18) extending from the head portion (16) towards the operating side (24) of the fastener (10) and having a relatively thin wall (28), which second portion (18) has a shape which matches the shape of the inner bore of the outer sleeve (2).The inner and outer sleeves (2,14) are adapted to be assembled together so that the abutment surface (12) of the outer sleeve (2) abuts against the shoulder (22) of the inner sleeve (14).

  • Patent number: 5664919
Abstract: A non-blind rivet is disclosed that can be used to form a joint without the need for brazing, welding or threaded locknuts. The rivet 1 is placed in compression by opposing dies 15,20 causing a narrow region of the rivet wall to buckle forming a fold 24, the rivet thus being held to a workpiece 12 between a flange 6 and the fold 24.

  • Patent number: 5652908
Abstract: A system for providing distributed control of a resource with centralized configuration management. A network of distributed workstations is provided for controlling a resource such as a large mainframe computer. Server workstations for applying control commands to the resource are attached to each resource, preferably through redundant connections. Remote client consoles are defined which may be connected to the server for control of that resource. Server and resource location and primary and fallback connection paths are maintained by a centralized control server. Upon client console request, the central control server causes the server workstation associated with a particular resource to establish a control session between the server and the client console. A record of each dynamic connection is maintained by the central control server. Upon failure of a client console, the server accesses central server fallback information and establishes a fallback connection with an operational client console.
