    Abstract: Infrared imaging at wavelengths longer than the silicon bandgap energy (>1100 nm) typically require expensive focal plane arrays fabricated from compound semiconductors (InSb or HgCdTe) or use of slower silicon microbolometer technology. Furthermore, these technologies are available in relatively small array sizes, whereas silicon focal plane arrays are easily available with 10 megapixels or more array size. A new technique is disclosed to up convert infrared light to wavelengths detectable by silicon focal plane arrays, or other detector technologies, thereby enabling a low-cost, high pixel count infrared imaging system.

    Abstract: A computing device includes an operating system that manages an application and maintains threads relating thereto, where each thread has assigned attributes and the operating system executes each thread according to each attribute thereof. An interface process of the application receives a thread with a request for the application, sets an attribute of the request/thread to enforce a limitation within the application, and forwards the request/thread to the application for further processing in accordance with the limitation to produce a result. The interface process thereafter receives the same thread with the result from the application, resets the attribute of the result/thread to remove the limitation outside of the application, and forwards the result/thread for delivery to the requester. Thus, the interface process ensures by way of setting and resetting the attribute on the thread that the limitation on the application is satisfied.

    Abstract: An optical sensor comprises a sensing element comprising a waveguide grating with a response that varies with an effective modal index experienced by light propagating in the grating and a sample window for receiving fluid which affects the effective modal index to modify the response, the sensing element arranged to receive light from a light source and to output the light after filtering; and an analyzing element comprising a second waveguide grating having a second response, and arranged to receive light output by the sensing element and to output the light after filtering for detection by an optical power detector. The combination of the two gratings converts changes in the wavelength of light output by the sensing element in response to the sample of fluid to changes in the amount of light, allowing the fluid index to be deduced from a measurement of optical power. The two elements may be fabricated on a single substrate to reduce errors from environmental disturbances such as temperature changes.

Any client that supports these extensions can utilize these features. These extensions allow for additional metadata, additional state information about the page, additional field information, and server styles to be passed to the client, edited or applied, and returned to the server. The extensions model specific information from the server, to the client, and back to the server. All metadata, field values, and styles passed back from the client to the server will be applied to the page on the server. Any state change on the page will be applied to the page on the server. The server and client each interpret and process the extensions in a way that offers the user a better end-to-end story for publishing web pages from a client application.

    Abstract: A method of simultaneously defining a waveguide and grating in a sample of photosensitive material comprises providing a sample of material (24) having a region which is photosensitive to light of a specific wavelength, generating a spot of light (22) at the specific wavelength, the spot having a periodic intensity pattern of high and low intensity fringes, and a width which is related to the width of the channel, positioning the spot within the photosensitive region and causing relative movement between the sample and the light spot along the desired path of the waveguide/grating define a channel of altered refractive index by exposing parts of the photosensitive region to the light spot. Modulation of the light spot to produce multiple exposures produces a grating, while continuous exposure results in a uniform waveguide. These structures can be written in straight lines or around curves, and can be accurately overwritten, so that complex optical devices can be produced in a single fabrication step.

Gratings may have individual sample windows for testing separate fluid samples, or may share a common window so that a single fluid can be tested using several gratings.

    Abstract: A particle is provided with simultaneous delivery of a fertilizer and an active agent that when adhered to foliage causes a chemical burn thereto. A hydrophobic coating is provided intermediate between the fertilizer core and the active agent to inhibit moisture absorption by the particle that renders the particle tacky and therefore adherent to target foliage. The active agent granule is adhered to the hydrophobic coating or at least partially embedded therein based on the nature of the formation process. The particle is also provided that includes a second fertilizer layer exterior to the hydrophobic coating with the second fertilizer layer is substantially devoid of water soluble nitrogen compounds. Active agent granules are then adhered to the second fertilizer layer. The resultant particles reduce chemical burning associated with combined fertilizer and active agent usage, especially under dispersant conditions of high temperature and high humidity.

    Abstract: The tool handle of the invention includes a shank connected via a ratcheting mechanism to a male square drive. A pair of handle wings are pivotally connected to the shank at a transverse pivot hinge such that the handle wings can be changed between a screwdriver-type configuration, an L-shape configuration, a T-shape configuration or other intermediate configurations. When the handle wings are in the fully open position, the handle wings bear against the shank to create a mechanism for transferring power between the handle wings and the tool shank without the need for a separate lock. A quick change adapter having a female drive can be connected to the male square drive such that the tool handle can be used with a wide variety of tools including taps and extractors, sockets, screwdriver bits and the like.

    Abstract: A combination ratchet wrench having a standard open-type or box-type wrench at one end thereof and a ratcheting extraction box at the other end thereof. The ratchet extraction wrench box is connected by a ratcheting mechanism to the wrench that allows rotation of the ratchet extraction wrench box relative to the wrench only in one direction. The ratchet extraction wrench box is provided with a fastener extraction head that has an interior bore extending inwardly from a receiving end. The bore has a plurality of helically-shaped grooves, each extending from the receiving end and curve radially and inwardly towards the central axis of the bore to form sharp ridges that extend in a helical fashion inside the bore. When the fastener extraction is placed over a fastener head, the ridges “bite” into the material of the fastener. Because the extraction head is formed as an integral part of the wrench there is no need to have a separate turning tool.
