  • Patent number: 7195583
Abstract: Seating that provides comfort, facilitates healthful upright posture, has capability for exercise, and facilitates a healthful upright position, comprises a seat having left and right portions for supporting a user's left and right thighs, respectively. A seat support supports the seat. The seat support includes a pivot axis about which the seat left and right portions can pivot downwardly and upwardly relative to the seat support. A foot plate assembly comprises right and left foot support members positioned forwardly and below the seat to allow a user to exercise while seated. A connection structure links the foot plates to the seat so that the seat sections and the foot members have corresponding movement.

  • Patent number: 6739665
Abstract: A motion chair includes a pair of side frames, each of which has a front leg, a rear leg and a side rail brace member interconnected therebetween. A seat is located between the side frames, and includes a pair of resilient spring-type seat frames. A seat mounting arrangement interconnects each seat frame with one of the side frames. The seat mounting arrangement includes a bracket-type mounting member to which the seat frame is secured. A seat support member is interconnected with the side rail member, and the seat mounting member is secured to the support member. In one form, the seat support member is a metal reinforcement member connected to the side rail member, which is preferably formed of a wood material. The reinforcement member distributes loads and stresses applied to the seat mounting member to and throughout the length of the brace member. In another form, the seat support member is a planar side member that spans across a joint between the leg and the side rail member.

  • Patent number: 6622321
Abstract: A convertible article of furniture includes a primary cushion member supported by a support structure, and a backrest assembly which is movable relative to the primary cushion member between an upstanding rearward position and a lowered forward position. The backrest assembly has a sectional articulated construction, including an inner backrest member and an outer backrest member. When the backrest assembly is in the upstanding rearward position, the outer backrest member extends upwardly from the inner backrest member to support the upper back area of a user seated upon the primary cushion member. When the backrest assembly is moved to its lowered forward position, the outer backrest member is moved downwardly and inwardly relatively to the inner backrest member, to an unobtrusive stored position.

  • Patent number: 6347418
Abstract: A convertible daybed including a pivotable swing arm assembly attached between a support for a removable cushion assembly and a backrest assembly. The swing arm assembly includes a pair of brackets attached on either side of the cushion assembly and a pair of swing arms pivotably mounted between brackets at either end of the backrest assembly. The swing arm assembly allows the backrest assembly to be manually moved between a seating configuration, where the backrest assembly is positioned against a rear surface of the cushion assembly, and a sleeping configuration, where the backrest assembly is positioned against the front face of the cushion assembly. The backrest assembly includes a backrest shaped to conform with the front and rear surfaces of the cushion assembly, providing a comfortable seating arrangement in the seating configuration and a substantially flat sleeping surface in the sleeping configuration.

  • Patent number: 5551758
Abstract: A durable patient chair (10) comprises a chair base frame (12) including a pair of substantially rigid, spaced apart, front legs (22); a pair of brackets (14), each bracket (14) being fixedly attached to each front leg (22) and has a downwardly extending lip (42) and a horizontal portion (44); a rearwardly extending resilient seat (16) having a front edge with a downwardly extending lip (56) for attachment to the brackets (14); and a pair of first fasteners (18) for attaching the downwardly extending lip (42) of the bracket (14) to the downwardly extending lip (56) of the seat. Preferably, a second fastener (20) is used for attaching the horizontal portion (44) of the bracket (14) to an outer surface of the seat (16) proximate to the front edge (53) to better secure the seat (16) to the bracket (14).

  • Patent number: 5431479
Abstract: A tandem chair assembly comprises a frame, a plurality of seating units, and an optional integral table. The frame comprises a pair of opposed legs and a horizontal beam extending between and attached to the end legs. Rigid seating units comprising a seat support section and a back support section are positioned side-by-side between the legs with their fronts supported on the beam. Seat connection plates secure the front of the seat support section of each seating unit to the horizontal beam. In addition brackets are used for rigidly connection each leg to the back support section of the seating unit next to the leg. Further, the back support sections of each adjacent pair of seating units are rigidly connected together, and the seat support section and back support section are maintained at right angles by means of right angle struts that double as arm rests.
