  • Patent number: 5071191
Abstract: A chair comprising a combination of metal and wooden members provides a pleasing aesthetic warm appearance and a durable structure with a pivotal rocking action for the seat and backrest. A cut-out portion of the front leg houses a rectangular metal post constituting a metal bracket to support the pivotal function of a frame for the seat and backrest. A plate or panel can overlay the metal post inset in the front leg to retain an overall substantially wooden appearance to the chair.

  • Patent number: 5020817
Abstract: A wheelchair comprises front legs, rear legs and a rearwardly directed support. Large non-swiveling front wheels are located ahead of small swivel wheels which are affixed to the rear frame. The seat and backrest portions are pivotally attached to the front legs. The front legs are hollow tubes with rods passing through to engage rotatable rollers at the floor engaging ends of the legs. The rollers can be locked against rotation to brake the chair or be freely rotatable when the rods are elevated and the chair is to be moved. The structure provides a refined and aesthetically pleasing wheelchair suitable for long term, geriatric use. A foot support is foldable between an extended position ahead of the seat and a position below the seat, the foot support blending neatly with the seat portion of the chair.

  • Patent number: 4555139
Abstract: A chair, especially suited for use by sitters lacking in normal strength, provides a lilting motion without shifting the base of the chair, and provides support and assistance to the sitter in exiting the chair. The seat and back of the chair are supported by continuously flexible members, and the back is orthopaedically designed for maintaining spinal support, even as a user of the chair moves with the motion of the chair.

  • Patent number: 4529246
Abstract: A chair is provided which finds primary, although not exclusive, use as a patient's chair in a hospital room. The chair is formed of both rigid and flexible resilient members, composed respectively, for example, of tubular and flat barstock spring steel, which is configured to form a frame for the chair, and which provides a base, front legs, and support for the seat, back and arm rests of the chair; and a web-like member attached to the frame to constitute the seat and back of the chair. The seat and back are supported on the frame for resilient reciprocal movement. A pair of arm rests are attached to the frame, on either side of the seat. The web-like member, for example, may be formed of polyester mesh. An upholstered cover may be provided which may be attached to the web-like member by strips of Velcro and plastic rivets. The upholstered cover may be formed of vinyl, or other appropriate material, although the patient may sit directly on the web-like material.

  • Patent number: 4060277
Abstract: Modular multiple lounge seating and table furniture is provided which includes a tubular support frame. The tubular support frame is formed of a plurality of modular pairswhich may be intercoupled into a variety of configurations. Each modular pair includes a module individually formed of a U-shaped elongated tubular member having its closed end bent down into a plane extending substantially perpendicular to the plane of its open end. A cross bar is mounted across the open end of each module, and two such modules are coupled together by couplings between the respective bent-down portions to form the modular pair. A succession of such modular pairs may be intercoupled by couplings between open ends of the tubular members, between the respective cross bars at the open ends thereof, or by other means, so as to provide an assembly of any desired number of modular pairs, and of any desired configuration. Seat cushions, table tops, or other appropriate components, are mounted on each modular pair.
