Publication number: 20140250578Abstract: Various disclosed systems relate to fixtures, such as toilets, that include a lighting mechanism for illuminating portions of the fixture. One embodiment relates to a toilet. The seat assembly of the toilet includes a hinge assembly having a hinge housing and a lighting mechanism. The lighting mechanism is at least partially encapsulated by the hinge housing. The lighting mechanism including a first light source and a power source. The seat assembly further includes a lid pivotally connected to the hinge assembly. The seat assembly includes a ring pivotally connected to the hinge assembly. The lighting mechanism is configured to direct light at the tank and to direct light into the bowl such that light is reflected off of the tank and off of an interior of the bowl.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 10, 2014Publication date: September 11, 2014Applicant: KOHLER CO.Inventors: Roger W. Murphy, Michael Luettgen, Gary Clarke, Joseph L. Stauber

Publication number: 20140201895Abstract: A lid for a toilet including a bottom surface that faces a top surface of a seat for the toilet when the seat is in a lowered position proximate to a bowl of the toilet. The bottom surface of the lid has a sweeping profile that extends along at least a portion of the bottom surface of the lid and is configured to engage the top surface of the seat. A uniform gap between the seat and lid is defined by the sweeping profile of the lid and the material thickness of the lid when both the lid and the seat are in a lowered position.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 8, 2013Publication date: July 24, 2014Inventors: Roger W. Murphy, Jeffrey T. Laundre, Michael R. Bates, David P. Ourada

Publication number: 20140189947Abstract: A toilet includes a seat, a bowl and a damper locking mechanism that allows the seat to rotate relative to the bowl with an influenced inertia. The damper locking mechanism includes a hinge base having a biasing member and an interior surface that defines a bore and a damper having an exterior surface that engages the interior surface. When the damper is disposed in the bore, the biasing member imparts a radial force to bias the damper into the hinge base and remove a looseness between the seat and the bowl.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 30, 2013Publication date: July 10, 2014Applicant: Kohler Co.Inventors: Roger W. Murphy, Jeffrey T. Laundre, David Ourada

Patent number: 5860538Abstract: A system for attaching an accessory to a support housing which affords ease of fastening and a hidden fastening system. The system includes a locking stem having a head connected to a body by a neck. The accessory engages the support housing at an angle. The head of the locking stem is positioned in the accessory and the body positioned in the support housing. Movement of body away from the accessory causes the head to engage opposing inside surfaces of the accessory and effect a locking of the accessory to the support housing and a frame. In a preferred embodiment, the accessory is a towel bar and the support housing is connected to a shower door frame.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 1997Date of Patent: January 19, 1999Assignee: Kohler Co.Inventors: Steven J. Duero, Roger W. Murphy

Patent number: 5274859Abstract: A bathtub shower splash shield member which includes a shower curtain holding structure adapted for use with a bathtub for preventing water from a shower head from splashing between a wall and the adjacent side of a suspended shower curtain, member comprised of a generally triangular shaped unitary body containing two general orthogonally arranged mounting legs that intersect at a vertex and a web extending between and joining mounting legs. The two mounting legs include a vertically extending leg adapted to be mounted on a wall structure and a horizontally extending leg adapted to be mounted on the flat horizontal surface of a side wall of the bathtub. The shower curtain holding structure includes an opening extending through vertically extending leg and a finger clamp disposed in this opening. The finger clamp includes a clamping portion extending in a direction away from first leg. The clamping portion cooperates with the web to grip a portion of the curtain between the clamping portion and the web.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1992Date of Patent: January 4, 1994Assignee: Brass-Craft Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Leon E. Patent number: 5076540Abstract: A three-piece angle stop valve comprises a valve body, resilient control sleeve and handle, with no separate fastening or sealing elements required. Inlet line pressure resiliently biases the side walls of the control sleeve and a circumferential sealing flap formed thereon into sealing engagement with the valve bore to prevent leakage. The handle is secured to the valve body by resilient formations which snap into a circumferential groove on the valve body. The handle rotates the control sleeve by means of telescoping splines. Several circumferential and axial reinforcing ribs are formed in the interior of the control sleeve. A collar having a tapered rim in the valve body piercingly engages a corresponding tapered section on the resilient control sleeve to additionally secure the control sleeve against axial downstream movement in the valve body.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1990Date of Patent: December 31, 1991Assignee: Brass-Craft Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Roger W.
