  • Patent number: 5143202
Abstract: A screw conveyor with a slowly rotating feed screw for precision metering by conveying very small amounts of loose material between screw threads, the same amount of loose material being discharged from the end of the conveyor with each turn of the screw. During the relatively short time interval of a single revolution, which can last one minute or even a multiple thereof as needed, the conveyor capacity itself fluctuates, since discrete amounts of the material being conveyed are always delimited by the individual threads of the feed screw. In order for a screw conveyor to be usable for precision metering of very small amounts to be conveyed; i.e. for conveying very small amounts with a high degree of constancy without the periodicity caused by the nature of the feed screw, the screw conveyor is provided with a rotatably mounted tube surrounding the discharge end of the fixed feed tube and which is driven at a rotational speed proportional to the rotational speed of screw.

  • Patent number: 5111566
Abstract: In a controlled deflection roll having a roll shell rotatable about a stationary carrier and braced by one or more support elements against the stationary carrier, the roll shell comprises an inner roll shell part and an outer roll shell part which, during operation of the controlled deflection roll, form a press or force fit with respect to one another, for instance, due to excess pressure in the interior of the controlled deflection roll or due to elastic pre-biasing of the parts of the roll shell. Upon pressure relief or the existence of negative pressure within the controlled deflection roll a play or clearance is formed between the outer roll shell part and the inner roll shell part of the roll shell which enables dismantling and exchange of the outer roll shell part of the roll shell without the need to dismantle the controlled deflection roll or to remove such from the machine.

  • Patent number: 4721154
Abstract: During the melt spinning process for producing metal foils having an amorphous structure, molten metal is cast through a slot-like nozzle onto a surface or wall which is rapidly moved past the nozzle. A particularly rapid quenching and cooling rate of the solidifying melt is achieved by providing cooling support elements which are supplied with a cooling pressure medium, on one side of the moved surface or wall and which aide is located opposite to or remote from the nozzle. Advantageously, the surface or wall is constructed as a thin-walled cylindrical shell or tube which is elastically deformable to some extent. In its shell interior, there are provided a number of rows of cooling support elements which may be controlled by thickness sensors and temperature profile sensors. There is thus rendered possible, the continuous production of amorphous metal foils.

  • Patent number: 4721039
Abstract: The bottom roll of a roll stack in a calender is constructed as a controlled deflection roll equipped with a non-rotatable carrier or support beam and a roll shell rotatable about the non-rotatable carrier. The roll shell is supported on the non-rotatable carrier by means of hydraulic support or pressure elements. The non-rotatable carrier is supported with respect to the calender stand by means of hydraulic carrier support devices. For the rapid opening of the calender and to avoid damage to the roll shell, initially the pressure exerted on the roll shell support elements is reduced in a sudden manner and only after a predetermined time-delay is there reduced the pressure exerted on the carrier support devices.

  • Patent number: 4282638
Abstract: A heated controlled deflection roll equipped with spraying devices arranged in the intermediate space or compartment between the stationary roll support and the roll shell. The spraying devices have walls confronting the inner surface of the roll shell and at which walls there are formed openings which, during operation, form liquid jets. Oil which is infed to the spraying devices can be heated in a collecting container and/or in a tubular conduit. Temperature regulation of the roll shell can also be accomplished by a throughflow or quantitative regulation by means of valves. If there are present a number of temperature zones in the lengthwise direction of the roll shell then different spray devices can be operatively associated with partition walls, from which the liquid is infed to separate collecting containers. From these collecting containers the liquid is again infed, by means of separate pressure lines, to the individual spray devices.

  • Patent number: 4246668
Abstract: To obtain optical effects, particularly dye pattern effects, a treatment is proposed for a web of material or a number of webs of material guided side by side in the nip between treatment rollers, more particularly a web of material impregnated with or containing dye or other finishes, wherein the treatment pressure is set differently in individual longitudinal portions of the nip or is set intermittently, so that the web of material is exposed to different treatment pressures at different points, with the result that, in particular, the dye or other finish is forced out of the parts of the web of material subjected to the greatest pressure, and into those parts subjected to least pressure. An apparatus is proposed for carrying out this treatment, wherein one of the treatment rollers which form the nip is a deflection adjustment roller and comprises support members which are associated with controllable pressure regulators for regulating the pressure in the support members.

  • Patent number: 4222255
Abstract: A rolling device or mill having a controlled deflection roll possessing a fixed support and a radially movable roll shell rotatable about the fixed support. Between the roll shell and the material to be rolled there is located an intermediate roll having journals supported at the framework by means of pressure sensors or feelers. The contact force of the controlled deflection roll is regulated such that the journals of the intermediate roll are load relieved. There is thus formed a compensation between the contact force of the roll and the reaction force of the material. The support of the journals in the framework can be adjusted in dependency upon the measurement of the thickness of the rolled material.
