  • Patent number: 5447662
Abstract: Polymeric coatings having optically non-linear or optically anisotropic properties in selected areas and of any arbitrary shape including a pattern. These zones are sharply defined from surfaces having centro-symmetrical or isotropic configurations or from surfaces with different optically non-linear or anisotropic properties. The polymeric coating has optically non-linear and/or mesogenic side chains, selected surface areas of which are cross-linked by the action of light, the zones which have optically non-linear or anisotropic properties being subjected to the influence or orienting fields or forces during the cross-linking process. The distances between optically different zones are limited to typically about 1 .mu.m.

  • Patent number: 5401594
Abstract: The subject invention relates to a hydrophilized separator material of nonwoven fabric that is useful for electrochemical cells having an aqueous alkaline electrolyte. The nonwoven fabric comprises a mixture of lower-melting and higher-melting polyamide and/or polyolefin fibers that are compressed together in a sealed manner by softening the lower-melting fiber portions with pressure and heat. The separator material is hydrophilized by moistening it with 0.5 to 7% by weight, with respect to the dry weight of the nonwoven fabric, of deionized water. The subject invention further relates to the method for hydrophilizing the nonwoven fabric.

  • Patent number: 5042199
Abstract: A prefabricated window system includes a main frame which is fabricated from thermoplastic elements having substantially the same cross-sectional configuration. Windows and a screen are slideably mounted in the main frame. A thermoplastic sill is snap-connected to the bottom portion of the frame and a decorative cover is snap-connected to the top portion. Stop elements, having the same cross-sectional configuration as the cover element, are snap-connected to the side portions of the frame in order to prevent the windows from being raised or lowered too far. The windows can be pivoted for cleaning, and the frame includes portions which overlap the outer peripheries of the windows to prevent them from inadvertently being rotated outward. These portions also reduce air incursion. A latch is mounted on one window and a keeper which cooperates with the latch is mounted on the other, the keeper being firmly mounted in the window sill by upwardly extending screws.

  • Patent number: 4924628
Abstract: A prefabricated slider window system includes a main frame made from extruded thermoplastic members. Windows are mounted in the main frame for horizontal sliding movement. The main frame includes a bottom frame portion having channels for guiding the bottom sides of the windows, and a top frame portion having channels for guiding the top sides of the windows. The channels are deeper in the top frame portion than in the bottom frame portion to permit the windows to be raised out of the channels in the bottom frame portion. The raised windows can then be removed from the main frame so that the outdoor sides of the windows can be cleaned.

  • Patent number: 4884408
Abstract: The production of water vapor is controlled in a plant for combusting fine-grained and dustlike solid fuels together with air in a combustion zone of a heat exchanger in the upper region of the combustion zone, a water vapor accumulator, which communicates with the heat exchanger, and a water vapor feed line leading from the water vapor accumulator to a turbine. The rate at which water vapor is produced is continually calculated and is compared with the desired value which is required by the turbine and the rates at which fuel and combustion air are supplied to the combustion zone are adjusted in accordance therewith. The combustion plant may comprise a fluidized bed cooler for cooling a part of the part of the combustion residue. That cooler may comprise a plurality of chambers provided with heat exchangers for an evaporation of feed water or for a super heating of water vapor.

  • Patent number: 4600283
Abstract: Method and apparatus for automatically controlling aerial photographic cameras. An exact and reliable control device of low electronic and optical cost, which unburdens the operator, is realized by means of two photoreceiver lines positioned parallel to each other and perpendicular to the flight direction. At least the first line is connected to a data memory, which as well as the second line is connected to a correlator. The correlator is connected, via units for calculating the vg/hg ratio and/or the drift, to setting mechanisms of the aerial camera. A third photoreceiver line can also be provided, coupled subsequently to a data memory. The invention is utilizable in photogrammetry.

  • Patent number: 4457278
Abstract: A fuel supply system for a mixture-compressing internal combustion engine employs a controllable differential pressure for the removal of air from a main air duct into a carrier air duct for proportioning the fuel to be used. The fuel system includes a fuel proportioning device and a vane pump for withdrawing a carrier air flow from the main air duct and for transporting the fuel through feed lines to the internal combustion engine. The pressure of the air at the fuel outlet and the differential pressure for fuel proportioning is controlled by a differential pressure valve located in the carrier air duct spaced from the main air duct. The differential pressure valve has a diaphragm dividing the interior of the valve into chambers with one side of the diaphragm acted upon by the air pressure in the carrier duct between the differential pressure valve and the main air duct.

  • Patent number: 4250561
Abstract: A conversion structure is provided for converting polarity changes into digital characters and digital characters into polarity changes. The structure includes a conversion circuit which is connected to a termination circuit by way of a memory unit, a communications control unit, and a second termination circuit which operates as an interface. Memory cells are assigned to receive incoming information and transmit the same to the conversion circuit and to receive outgoing information from the conversion circuit and transmit the same to the outgoing side of the termination circuit. The conversion circuit comprises an input code converter, and output code converter and a chain of series/parallel converters and parallel/series converters therebetween. The series/parallel converters receive polarity changes and convert the same into a digital character. Conversely, the parallel/series converters receive complete digital characters in parallel and process the same into a series of polarity changes.
