  • Patent number: 5701978
Abstract: A set of brake pads for a floating-caliper disc brake including a first brake pad with a first retaining spring for clamping engagement on a brake piston and a second brake pad with a second retaining spring for clamping engagement on an axially external leg of the floating caliper. The first retaining spring has two resilient tongues which are locked in a bore of the hollow brake piston, and the second retaining spring has identical resilient tongues which are locked in a recess of the external housing leg. According to the present invention, the distances between the respectively opposed resilient tongues are different in conformity with the different widths of the bore and the recess, respectively. The provision according to the present invention renders it impossible to attach the first brake pad to the external housing leg and the second brake pad to the brake piston.

  • Patent number: 5494140
Abstract: A brake shoe for spot-type disc brakes. The novel brake shoe incorporates a retaining spring which is fixed to the brake shoe's backplate and which is intended to engage a hollow portion of a brake piston. Preferably the backplate is coated with a silencing varnish paint for noise abatement. A fixing section of the retaining spring is formed with a step which is in abutment against the backplate in a range devoid of silencing varnish paint. The retaining spring is secured to safeguard against twisting. The operability of the retaining spring is preserved, independently of the accidental thickness of the layer of silencing varnish paint.

  • Patent number: 5472068
Abstract: A cast-aluminum floating caliper of a floating-caliper spot-type disc brake is reinforced by means of reinforcing elements of a high-tensile material. In accordance with one embodiment of this invention the floating caliper is provided with recesses in an area adjacent the brake disc and the brake shoes. Bolts extend through the recesses in the direct vicinity of the radially outside brake disc edge. Commercially available steel bolts preferably are used. These measures optimize the floating caliper weight, stiffness and manufacturing cost.

  • Patent number: 5458344
Abstract: In a dust cover (6) for the brake cylinder (1) of a disc brake with a ring-shaped boot (7), with a fixing torus (8) at a first end of the boot engaging an annular groove (9) in the piston (3) of the brake cylinder (1) and with a stiffening lining in the shape of a ring (11) which is at least partly surrounded by the material of the boot (7) and which urges the second end of the boot (7) against the inside wall (12) of a ring-shaped recess (5) in the front side (4) of the brake cylinder (1) said second end of the boot (7) forms a unilaterally open, ring-shaped bag into which said ring (11) is inserted. Within said bag the ring (11) is formed with perforations (14) which are penetrated by the material of the boot (7). A radial collar (13) of the ring (11) which projects out of said bag constitutes a surface of abutment for an assembly tool.

  • Patent number: 5400882
Abstract: In a duo-servo drum brake comprising a mechanical expander adjacent a thrust bearing for supporting the brake shoes, with the expander including an operating lever to which is transmitted the operating force of an actuator substantially in a direction tangential to the edge of the brake drum. The brake shoe is movable through an expander in the direction of the operating force and connected to a thrust bearing through a prestressed spring. The spring force of the prestressed spring opposes the expanding force of the expander and exceeds the operating force required for placing the brake shoes in abutment with the brake drum on the operating lever.

  • Patent number: 5299665
Abstract: A damping bushing for a guide pin of a spot-type disc brake is disclosed, having an elastic pleated cup formed with a first end section fixed to a cylindrical body receiving the guide pin, and also formed with a second end section adapted to be assembled to a ring fixed to the guide pin. The ring has a recess which accepts a torus integral with the second end section The torus (74) is formed with an outer large radius of curvature portion and an inner smaller radius of curvature portion which creates a cam shape. The larger radius portion allows a pleat of the second end section to force the torus over a cone shaped ring end and into the ring recess. The torus then is retained by the smaller radius portion engaging a corner of the recess.

  • Patent number: 5284228
Abstract: A floating-caliper spot-type disc brake is disclosed having an arrangement for actively retracting the indirectly actuated external brake shoe to create a clearance with the brake disc. Elastic spring elements (24, 34, 38, 45) engage the external brake shoe (10) and the carrier arms (2, 3) of the brake carrier (1) and which are elastically tensioned by actuation of the brake to allow a slight retraction of the external brake shoe when the elements relax as the brake is released. The spring elements are mounted to allow a frictional grip to be overcome to shift the relative relaxed position of the spring element and external brake shoe as the brake lining wears, so that a constant disc clearance is maintained.

  • Patent number: 5257679
Abstract: A spot-type disc brake in which a two part brake housing forms a central radial cavity open at the outside which allows the brake shoes to be removed through the cavity without disassembly of the housing. The brake shoes are engaged by surfaces on short height projection pairs protruding into the cavity from either side, the surfaces machined with a radiused shape concentric with the actuator cylinder bores to facilitate manufacture. The short height allows the radiused shape without preventing removal of the brake shoes. In a first embodiment, the projections are also formed with outer tangential surfaces, with surfaces on the brake shoes urged thereagainst with a retained spring. In a second embodiment, a holding pin extends across the central cavity and through bores at the outside of each brake shoe, a retainer spring engaged with the holding pin and brake shoes.
