Patent number: 9646174Abstract: A secure provisioning manifest used to authenticate and securely communicate with peripherals attached to a computer is provided with techniques to learn about a new peripheral not authorized to be attached to the computer and possibly gain authorization for the peripheral. A secure I/O module, that is separate from an operating system and transaction software executed by a processor of the computer, uses the secure provisioning manifest to authenticate and establish a secure encrypted session for communicating with each peripheral authorized to be attached to the computer. When an unauthorized peripheral is found, identifying information for the peripheral is transmitted to an enterprise provisioning server with a request to authorize the peripheral.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 2016Date of Patent: May 9, 2017Assignee: NCR CorporationInventors: Erick Christian Kobres, Ron William Rogers

Patent number: 9355277Abstract: There is provided a pluggable secure device identity module (SDIM) attached to a peripheral where the SDIM includes one or more secret functions provided by a third party that are used by the peripheral to provide additional security features or functions that can only be authenticated by the third party. The peripheral is attached to a computer and a secure provisioning manifest is used to authenticate and communicate with the peripheral. The computer includes a processor that executes an operating system and transaction software. A secure I/O module, that has a processor and software that is separate and isolated from the processing environment of the computer, uses the secure provisioning manifest to authenticate the peripheral and then to establish a secure encrypted session for communicating with the peripheral.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2013Date of Patent: May 31, 2016Assignee: NCR CorporationInventors: Erick Christian Kobres, Ron William Rogers

Patent number: 9344281Abstract: A secure provisioning manifest used to authenticate and securely communicate with peripherals attached to a computer is provided with techniques to withdraw the authentication and terminate the secure communications with any peripheral when operating parameters for the peripheral indicate that there is a security threat associated with the peripheral. A secure I/O module, that is separate from an operating system and transaction software executed by a processor of the computer, uses the secure provisioning manifest to establish a secure encrypted session for communicating with each peripheral attached to the computer when a peripheral is authenticated and able to establish a secure encrypted session. The secure I/O module uses current and known operating parameters for each peripheral to periodically determine if a peripheral has been compromised by a security threat.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2013Date of Patent: May 17, 2016Assignee: NCR CorporationInventors: Erick Christian Kobres, Ron William Rogers

Patent number: 8657010Abstract: A downhole flow device has a sliding and ported sleeves. A seal has a first component on the sliding sleeve and a second component on the ported sleeve. These components engage one another to seal flow through the ports in the ported sleeve. The components move apart to allow fluid flow through the ports. The components are protected from abrasion and flow by virtue of the seal's structure and how it is opened. The sliding sleeve moves hydraulically along an axis of the ported sleeve to reveal successive ports defined along the sleeve's axis. Operation of the device and the seal address both erosion and damage from differential pressure problems. Thus, the seal prevent damage when unloading a differential pressure across it, and abrasive flow does not have the opportunity to impinge on the sealing surfaces to cause erosion.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2010Date of Patent: February 25, 2014Assignee: Weatherford/Lamb, Inc.Inventors: Ryan Ward, Ron Williams, Roddie R. Publication number: 20130276351Abstract: The present invention includes a system for improving the speed and ease of attaching, removing, and cleaning bait-cans when used for crabbing. A punch machine pierces one or more holes in a bait-can that resembles a large tuna can. This can, in turn, inserts into a new hanger device that is generally C-shaped with the open notch at the bottom and a pair of retainers at the top. The can is simply snapped into the hanger. The hanger attaches to a crab pot but suspends the bait can off the floor of the pot. In another version, the hanger includes two opposed arms that can be used to stabilize an existing bait device in the known art.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 15, 2013Publication date: October 24, 2013Inventor: Ron Williams

Patent number: 8458852Abstract: The present invention relates to a system of creating and applying a heated cleaning fluid to a surface. The system includes a housing with a first, a second and a third exhaust gas opening. A first, second, and third heat exchanger are enclosed within the housing. The first and second exchangers are serially arranged, while the third is at an angle relative to the first and second and directly adjacent to the first opening. Super heated exhaust gas flows through first opening and third exchanger. Heated gas flows through the second opening and passes below the third exchanger. Super heated exhaust gas exiting the third exchanger mixes with the heated gas in a mixing chamber of the housing, which is then supplied to the first and second exchangers. Fluid passes through the three exchangers and exits the third exchanger heated. That heated fluid passes to a cleaning wand for application.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 2010Date of Patent: June 11, 2013Assignee: Kärcher North America, Inc.Inventor: Ron Williams

Patent number: 7637742Abstract: A carbon dioxide gas buoyancy experiment device that can demonstrate how the buoyancy force acts against the force of gravity and how an object's buoyancy in a fluid can be manipulated by altering the object's density. The device demonstrates how the buoyancy force works in practice by submerging bundles of hydrophobic fingers capable of collecting gas into a gas releasing liquid such as soda. As the finger bundles collect gas bubbles released by the liquid, the volume of the submerged finger bundles increases, thereby increasing their buoyancy and causing the finger bundles to ascend and float in the liquid. The finger bundles can be pushed back down in the liquid, but will rise again due to the increased buoyancy imparted by the gas bubbles that adhere to the finger bundles.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 2007Date of Patent: December 29, 2009Inventor: Ron Williams

Patent number: 7288125Abstract: A kit and method for growing crystals for educational purposes. The kit consists of a small plastic petri dish, and a paper substrate with short and long slits precut therein that act as seed, respectively, for the formation of single and multiply crystals. The disk of paper has a tab that serves as a handle for placing and removing the disk from the petri dish and as a place to write on the disk. The kit is used by pouring a saturated aqueous salt solution in the bottom of the petri dish and then floating the substrate on the top of the solution. The dish is then allowed to sit uncovered for several days and crystals grow on the bottom surface of the substrate as the liquid evaporates.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 2004Date of Patent: October 30, 2007Inventor: Ron Williams

Publication number: 20060191180Abstract: A video display for a pick-up truck tailgate is disclosed, wherein a video screen is adapted for mounting in a truck bed for rearwardly facing projection of video images such as advertising, promotional video, entertainment, warning or cautionary information, and the like. The display is mounted using a pair of vertical brackets that support the video screen at the rear edge of the truck bed at the tailgate location. A power converter in the truck cabin produces AC power from the truck's DC battery that can be used to power the display. Using a plug and socket arrangement, the video screen may be releasably connected to a cross-beam type brace spanning the truck bed to fix the screen in the designated position, allowing for viewing from behind the vehicle.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 25, 2005Publication date: August 31, 2006Inventors: Ron Williams, Ted Thacker
