Abstract: A system and method for authenticating and continuously verifying authorized users of a digital device includes an authentication device attached to an arm or wrist of authorized users. The authentication device has an accelerometer, digital radio, a processor configured to provide identity information over the radio, and to transmit motion data. The motion data is received by the digital device and the identity transmitted is verified as an identity associated with an authorized user. Input at a touchscreen, touchpad, mouse, trackball, or keyboard of the digital device is detected, and correlated with the motion data. Access to the digital device is allowed if the detected input and the detected motion data correlate, and disallowed otherwise.

  • Publication number: 20100284747
Abstract: A hollow block in the form of a rectangular parallelepiped when filled with water, is joined with a plurality of similar water-filled blocks to form a flood barrier. Two opposite sides of each block have connection features that connect with features on the first and third sides of adjacent blocks to form a wall of connected blocks. Top and bottom walls of each block each have an inter-tier connection feature that mates with a block in each adjacent top or bottom wall. Each block includes on each of its top and bottom walls, inter-tier connection features structured to mate with an inter-tier connection feature of a similar block in the adjacent tier.

  • Publication number: 20080042646
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a device and method for pipeline inspection, The inspection device may include an exciter coil capable of providing an alternating current magnetic field and producing eddy currents. A plurality of sensors may then be provided which are capable of sensing a magnetic field produced by the eddy currents and the sensors may be engaged with a sensor shoe. The sensors may then be capable of being positioned at a first distance D1 with respect to an inner pipe wall surface and capable of providing coupling to the magnetic field produced by the eddy currents. The sensor shoe may also be capable of retracting to a second distance D2, wherein D1<D2. The sensor shoe may be connected to a sensor support arm wherein the support arm may be pivotably attached to a fixed hub and to a control arm which control arm may then be pivotably attached to a driven hub.

  • Publication number: 20080027248
Abstract: An improved hydroformylation process involving reacting one or more reactants, such as an olefin, with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a hydroformylation catalyst, to produce a reaction product fluid comprising one or more products, preferably aldehydes; wherein said process is conducted in a region of the hydroformylation rate curve that is negative or inverse order in carbon monoxide, which is sufficient to prevent and/or lessen deactivation of the hydroformylation catalyst; and wherein total pressure is controlled at a predetermined target value and/or vent flow rate is controlled at a predetermined target value, by adjusting a flow of a carbon-monoxide containing inlet gas, so as to prevent and/or lessen cycling of process parameters, e.g., reaction rate, total pressure, vent flow rate, and/or temperature.

  • Publication number: 20070252546
Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing power demand of a motor in a cyclic load system having a rotational mass is provided. Flat power draw is achieved through continuous manipulation of the motor torque as a function of feedback velocity while using the rotational mass of the cyclic load as a means to store/retrieve energy. Alternatively, reduced variation of power draw is accomplished through continuous manipulation of motor velocity as a function of feedback torque. The methods and apparatus are used in systems where zero or reduced power demand variation is either required or desired, such as in generator powered applications.

  • Publication number: 20070225930
Abstract: Systems and methods are described that carry out an intelligent, variable, time-gain control (TGC) of signal amplification in a long-range, guided-wave inspection and monitoring system. The systems and methods compensate for signal attenuation over the longer distances that guided-wave inspection techniques are capable of operating with. The sensor signal received is divided into relevant frequency bands that are each subjected to a variable TGC through separate variable gain amplifiers (VGAs). The gain selection is processor controlled through the use of a digital look-up table (LUT) stored with predetermined gain functions and/or data that are both time and frequency specific. The signal components are re-combined and digitized for further signal analysis and defect detection. The LUT is established through one or more methods including a weld signal amplitude equalization approach and a background noise equalization approach.

  • Publication number: 20060251525
Abstract: A rod pump control system includes a parameter estimator that determines from motor data parameters relating to operation of the rod pump and/or downhole dynamometer card without the need for external instrumentation, such as down hole sensors, echo meters, flow sensors, etc. In one embodiment, instantaneous motor current and voltage together with pump parameters are used in determining rod position and load. The rod position and load are used to control the operation of the rod pump to optimize the operation of the pump. Also disclosed in a pump stroke amplifier that is capable of increasing pump stroke without changing the overall pumping speed, or in the alternative, maintaining the well output with decreased overall pumping speed.
