  • Publication number: 20060180705
Abstract: A structural assembly and an associated system and method for manufacture are provided. The structural assembly includes an elongate member and a first connector member that is connected to an end of the elongate member by a braze joint. A second connector member can be connected to an end of the elongate member opposite the first connector by another braze joint. The elongate member is formed of a metal matrix composite material that includes a plurality of fibers of a reinforcement material disposed in a metal matrix. Each connector member is formed of a material that is dissimilar to the material of the elongate member. The braze joints can be formed by selectively heating the braze material, e.g., with an inductive coil that extends circumferentially around only a portion of the structural assembly.

  • Publication number: 20060151358
Abstract: A desulfurization system is operated in a manner which optimizes sulfur removal and octane retention. When the desulfurization reactor is operated at a specific ratio of total pressure to hydrogen partial pressure (PT/PH) and/or within a specific temperature range, optimum sulfur removal and octane retention are realized. The desulfurization reactor can be maintained at these optimized operating conditions by automatically adjusting one or more operating parameters of the desulfurization reactor in order to maintain a substantially constant hydrogen partial pressure (PH) in the reactor. Maintaining a relatively constant hydrogen partial pressure (PH) in the desulfurization reactor helps ensure a relatively consistent degree of desulfurization.

  • Publication number: 20060002306
Abstract: A method, system, peers and computer programs determine validity of path information corresponding to a transmission path between a monitoring peer and a monitored peer in a data communication network. The monitoring peer monitors unsolicited data received from the monitored peer via the reverse transmission path identified by the path information and further monitors any data sent to the monitored peer using the path information. Validity tests are performed by the monitoring peer for the path information to restore complete confidence in its validity in a way where the rate of testing is proportional to the rate of receiving unsolicited data from the monitored peer and to the rate of sending data to the monitored peer. The monitoring peer invalidates the path information if the validity test fails.

  • Publication number: 20050242087
Abstract: An apparatus and method for forming a composite workpiece are provided. An electromagnetic field generator induces a current in a susceptor, thereby heating the workpiece in a die cavity. An elastomeric bladder in the cavity is inflated and urges the workpiece against a contour surface corresponding to a desired configuration of the workpiece. Coolant fluid can also be circulated through the die cavity to cool the workpiece. Thus, the workpiece can be heated, formed, and cooled quickly and without substantial heating of other components, thereby reducing the time and energy relative to conventional forming methods.

  • Patent number: 6954785
Abstract: A method and apparatus for identifying a device acting as a server on a network is disclosed which uses network data representing communications on the network. The network data contains source device, destination device, data transfer protocol and data volume information for each communication represented therein and may be collected by network traffic monitors or packet capture devices such as RMON2 probes on the network. Data relating to relevant server protocols is identified within the network data, and using the identified data, a device is determined to be acting as a server if it has the highest data volume for communications in which it is the source or destination device and which communications involve at least a threshold number of other devices. The method may be conveniently implemented in a computer program and may be used in conjunction with a network management application.

  • Publication number: 20050205568
Abstract: An apparatus and method for consolidating a composite workpiece are provided. The apparatus includes an electromagnetic field generator for inducing a current and thereby heating a susceptor in thermal communication with the workpiece. The workpiece is supported by one or more support tools, each of which transmits the electromagnetic field so that the support tools are not substantially heated by the electromagnetic field. Thus, the time and energy required for heating the workpiece are reduced relative to conventional consolidation techniques.

  • Patent number: 6862286
Abstract: In a computer network of devices, at least some of the devices (i.e. the DCHP devices) have a static (e.g. MAC) address which does not change over time and a dynamic (e.g. IP) address which may change over time. There is disclosed a method and computer program for mapping the static address and dynamic address for the devices comprising polling said devices using said IP addresses and during said polling determining the MAC addresses of the devices, and providing a set of mapped static and dynamic addresses, said method including repeating the steps of the method at intervals. Using the method of the invention, it is possible, when entering a particular conversation in a database, to access the IP addresses, to determine which is the current DHCP device that address maps to, and assign the conversation to that device and store it in the database assigned to that device. Therefore, for each DHCP device, one can store a history of the conversations or traffic involved in that device.

  • Publication number: 20050012329
Abstract: A swivel fitting includes a body with a proximal contact section having a frusto-spherical contact surface and a distal stem section extending therefrom. A body bore extends through the sections and is open at body proximal and distal ends of the body. The contact section is multi-axially pivotably received in a housing assembly including an annular outer sleeve, which encircles an annular seal forming a frusto-spherical socket. The body contact surface slidably and sealingly engages the socket. Applications for the swivel pipe fitting including various fluid conveying systems and other applications for articulated components. Various connecting techniques can be used for joining the fitting to in-line components, and the fitting parts can comprise various materials.

  • Patent number: 6772349
Abstract: A computer program detects a potential attack on a computer network. A list E is made from network traffic data including source and destination addresses of traffic on the network. The list E includes all source addresses in the data which are not allocated to the network and are not in a list X. A first address in list E is chosen. A number of data entries including A and B and representing network traffic passing between source address A, chosen from list E, and destination address B, allocated to the network, is counted. If the number of such data entries is more than T, address A is output, thereby identifying address A as a potential source of attack. If it is determined that any entries in list E are left, the next address in list E is moved to, and the counting, outputting and determining is repeated, otherwise, stopping.
