    Abstract: A clamshell or two-sided cooking system utilizes an upper platen and a lower platen. The upper platen is movable to a non-cook and to a cook position. In the cook position, the upper platen is separated from the lower platen by a gap. The gap can be electronically adjusted for various thicknesses of foodstuffs. Preferably, an electronic adjustment mechanism is located within the upper platen assembly. The adjustment mechanism utilizes a stepper motor.
