  • Patent number: 8428017
Abstract: When a high SIR can be achieved for downlink data transmission, for example in a MIMO system, or when higher order modulation, such as 64 QAM, can be used, it is desired to measure the instantaneous downlink channel quality indicator (CQI), and report the measured CQI to the network using the same number of bits as when a lower SIR can be achieved. In order to do this, a true CQI is derived based upon at least one network controlled parameter and a measured channel quality parameter; and the true CQI value is scaled to a new CQI value such that the new CQI will fall within a specified range of CQI values; so that the new CQI achieved by scaling the derived CQI value can be reported with every CQI value over the entire reporting range requiring the same number of bits.

  • Patent number: 8385969
Abstract: In a cellular radio system Transmission Power Control (TPC) power offset is set so that it is adjusted for each transmitting radio base station based on available relevant measurements that reflect the quality of the downlink channel carrying the uplink TPC command whereby an improved performance is obtained. The TPC power offset can for example be based on an estimated uplink Dedicated Physical Control CHannel (DPCCH) SINR, the number of TPC “up” and the number of TPC “down” sent by a radio base station and aggregated UE receiver power or UE transmit power over a number N slots. Also a mobile station used in a cellular radio system supporting soft handover may be adapted to apply TPC discarding thresholds based on the number and the quality of simultaneously received TPC commands.

  • Patent number: 8259756
Abstract: The present invention is based on the idea to allocate HS-DSCH power at TTI based on the HS-SCCH allocation of UI and an estimation of the HS-SCCH allocation of TTI+1. The estimation of the HS-SCCH allocation of TTI+1 is based on estimation of which users that will be scheduled at the time denoted TTI+1. i.e., the users that have a high probability to be selected for transmission by the scheduler at the time denoted TTI+1 are determined. That is performed by calculating for each user the probability that the user will be selected for transmission by the scheduler. The users that have a high probability to be scheduled at the time TTI+1 are included in a candidate set according to the present invention.

  • Publication number: 20120120821
Abstract: A common uplink timing adjustment parameter value is estimated for UE transmissions in the multi-RAT communications network and provided for transmission to one or more UEs. That signaling parameter value is common to both the first and second RATs and useable by the one or more UEs to adjust transmit timing of uplink carriers belonging to the different RATs. The common timing adjustment parameter value may be provided, for example, in order to coordinate UE transmit timing of a first uplink carrier associated with the first RAT and of a second uplink carrier associated with the second RAT. A multi-RAT UE concurrently receives a first downlink carrier associated with the first RAT and a second different downlink carrier associated with the second RAT. The UE receives the common timing adjustment parameter value on one of those downlink carriers and adjusts a transmit timing of a first uplink carrier associated with the first RAT and of a second uplink carrier associated with the second RAT.

  • Patent number: 8160075
Abstract: Although described herein in terms of UE out-of-sync detection, those of skill in the art will readily recognize that embodiments of the present invention improve in-sync detection for currently out-of-sync UEs 22. That is, if an out-of-sync UE 22 detects sufficiently good channel conditions, it may announce this fact to the network and re-acquire in-sync status. For example, if the UE 22 receives F-DPCH signal transmissions and determines that, e.g., the TPC command error rate is less than a threshold, which is preferably much lower than 30%, over a measurement interval of, e.g., 240 slots (or 160 ms), the UE 22 may conclude that it is in-sync and announce this fact to the network 10. The restrictions of only valid F-DPCH transmissions during the UL DTX gated period will obviously enhance the reliability of this determination, just as is the case in determining out-of-sync status.

  • Patent number: 8159954
Abstract: The inventors have envisioned a multihop network scenario in which nodes are equipped with advanced multi-antenna arrangements, and recognized the advantage of exploring the presence of such advanced antenna arrangements in multihop network nodes for the specific purpose of determining link cost for routing in the network. Link cost is determined for a wireless link between a pair of nodes in the network based on multi-channel characteristics between the nodes, where at least one of the nodes is configured for operation with multiple antennas to provide for multiple channels. These multi-channel characteristics may for example be determined based on explicit channel matrix estimation and/or the number of transmit and receive antennas or other information on the antenna capabilities of the involved nodes. The determined link cost information may subsequently be used together with additional routing cost information for route determination, and packet forwarding.

  • Patent number: 8150447
Abstract: A method and arrangement is provided for adjusting the transmission power of radio signals sent over a radio link from a second node to be received by a first node reducing the transmission power consumption and/or optimizing the radio system capacity. The first node maintains a quality target of the link by generating a SIR target value by means of running an outer loop power control, which SIR target value is used for generating a power adjustment command to be sent to the second node for adjusting the transmission power such that a power level adequate for providing the quality target of the link is achieved. The method comprises the step of detecting an abrupt change in the conditions of the radio signals received from the second node, generating a temporary SIR target value, and replacing the SIR target value generated by the outer loop power control with the temporary SIR target value when generating the power adjustment command to be sent to the second node for adjusting the transmission power.

  • Patent number: 8149792
Abstract: In a radio access network (10) comprising a radio network controller node (26) and a base station node (28), a code tree has spreading codes which are allocatable between high speed downlink shared (HS-DSCH) channels and dedicated (DCH) channels. According to one aspect of the technology, use of the spreading codes of the code tree is monitored and an HS-DSCH channel is allocated a free spreading code which is non-adjacent to a spreading code already allocated to the HS-DSCH channels. In some example implementations, the free, non-adjacent spreading code is allocated so that more than one high speed channel user can use the spreading codes. In other example implementations, the free, non-adjacent spreading code is allocated so that one user uses the spreading codes by using more than one HS-SCCH channel. Preferably the non-adjacent spreading code is released from the HS-DSCH channel when the non-adjacent spreading code is needed for use by a DCH channel.
