  • Patent number: 6232314
Abstract: Arylalkylpiperazine compounds (1) wherein B is aryl or optionally substituted aryl; R1 is hydroxy; R2 and R3 are the same or different and are independently selected from hydrogen or C1-3 alkyl; m is 0, 1 or 2; D is a linking chain of atoms which may be optionally substituted and which contains from 1 to 8 atoms in the chain; E is a phenolic antioxidant group or a corresponding amino derivative thereof wherein the phenolic hydroxyl is replaced by amino, are disclosed. The compounds have both free radical scavenging activity and block excitatory amino acid activity. Some compounds of the present invention also display an affinity for voltage-sensitive sodium channels.

  • Patent number: 5064935
Abstract: Economic and efficient process for preparing an oligomer of poly(butylene terephthalate) or an oligomer of poly(butylene isophthalate) from a transesterification reaction mass by using a countercurrent column reactor system wherein the transesterification reaction mass is fed into the countercurrent column reactor and continuously flows downward while simultaneously a heated inert gas stream continuously flows upward to scrub out volatiles from the transesterification reaction mass, thereby yielding from the bottom of the countercurrent column reactor an oligomer of poly(butylene terephthalate) or an oligomer of poly(butylene isophthalate) suitable for use in a polycondensation reaction. Butanediol is recycled throughout the process through an absorber column.

  • Patent number: 4104868
Abstract: There is provided a method of constructing a chimney, which includes the steps of providing an inner precast lining composed of interfitting segments stacked vertically, providing a precast concrete outer wall composed of interfitting segments in stacked relationship surrounding the lining but spaced outwardly therefrom to define an interstitial gap, providing longitudinal reinforcing steel bars within the interstitial gap, and pouring in situ concrete into the interstitial gap and allowing the concrete to harden.

  • Patent number: 4077878
Abstract: Residual moisture and sulfur and other residual reducing agent impurities contained in dry cleaning solvents are removed by adding to the solvents an unsubstituted aromatic hydrocarbon or a halogen or alkyl-substituted aromatic hydrocarbon and a cellulosic container device. The cellulosic container device comprises a cellulosic bag which contains another cellulosic material on which has been coated a chromate compound, the chromate compound being sealed onto the cellulosic material by use of a polymeric material or a cellulosic gum, the cellulosic bag also having attached thereto one or more copper wires to provide a continuous electrical ground to the vessel containing the solvent or to a D.C. power supply. The same cellulosic container device can be added to petroleum liquids together with naphthalene and fatty acids to remove sulfur impurities therefrom.
