  • Publication number: 20040242231
Abstract: A method is described for transmitting data from a mobile station to a wireless network, as is a wireless communications system that operates in accordance with the method. The method includes (a) requesting permission to transmit data using an access channel; (b) in response to receiving a permission message from the wireless network, transmitting the data from the mobile station to the wireless network over a control channel using a modulation and channel coding scheme determined in the wireless network, and communicated to mobile station in the permission message; and (c) in response to receiving the transmitted data at the wireless network, soft combining the received data with previously received data, if any, until a desired decoding result is achieved, and transmitting an acknowledgment of data reception to the mobile station. The steps of transmitting and receiving preferably use a code division, multiple access technique.

  • Patent number: 6498785
Abstract: A method and apparatus for power control on a first channel that is shared by multiple mobile stations transmitting to base stations in a telecommunication system. An initial mobile station transmission power level is set on the first channel that is shared in the random access mode. The transmission power level may be determined based on a desired performance level of the first channel. The method and system may be efficiently applied on a channel that carries a transmission in one or more bursts, with each burst including the same or a varying number of frames of varying sizes. The method and apparatus utilizes a second channel that is shared by multiple mobile stations for transmitting the power control signaling from the base stations to the mobile stations.

  • Publication number: 20020128026
Abstract: A system and method are provided for reducing the time delay associated with compensating for fading effects. The system includes a base station and a mobile station in communication. The base station transmits information and a pilot signal to the mobile station through each of the channels. The mobile station receives the information as noisy information and the pilot signal as a noisy pilot signal from each of the channels and compares the received noisy pilot signals to determine and predict a weight to be assigned to each of the channels. The calculated predicted weights are transmitted from the mobile station back to the base station as predicted feedback information that is utilized by the base station to alter the characteristics of the modulated carrier signal prior to transmission.

  • Patent number: 6107533
Abstract: Process flow sequences for the reduction of equipment fouling in the fractional distillation of light end hydrocarbon components, such as those produced by pyrolysis or steam cracking, wherein conventional multiple hydrogenation unit configurations are replaced with upstream hydrogenation unit configurations. The upstream hydrogenation units of the invention are located at either side draws or in the reboiler circuit of deethanizers, in front-end demethanizer and front-end deethanizer sequences, or depropanizers, in front-end depropanizer sequences and obviate the need for most of the conventionally used hydrogenation units downstream.

  • Patent number: 5758476
Abstract: A capping apparatus, in particular for applying PRESON.TM. style caps to glass jars, comprising a chute with grooved sidewalls to allow free passage of the caps irrespective of tab orientation. At the chute outlet, stops depend from a bridge bar in order to engage the leading cap above its tab, again allowing caps to be presented in random orientation.

  • Patent number: 5710357
Abstract: A safe, effective, and economical method is provided for recovering olefins from cat-cracked gases without accumulating dangerous amounts of nitrogen oxides. A stream of cat-cracked gas first is scrubbed to remove acid gases, including nitrogen dioxide (NO.sub.2), and then is passed through a depropanizer fractionation tower. Hydrocarbons having four or more carbon atoms are recovered in the bottoms of the depropanizer, and the overhead from the depropanizer--which is composed of hydrocarbons having three or fewer carbon atoms--is sent to an absorber demethanizer tower. Hydrocarbons having two or more carbon atoms are recovered in the bottoms from the absorber demethanizer tower, where temperatures are no lower than about -45.56.degree. C. (-50.degree. F.) The overhead from the absorber demethanizer tower--which is composed of methane, hydrogen, and trace amounts of nitrogen oxide, C.sub.2, and absorbent (C.sub.3)--then is chilled to condense and recover trace amounts of C.sub.
