Publication number: 20070252319Abstract: A printed product, with a number of inserts, is printed on a printing machine. The pages of the inserts are printed by the printing machine as product pages on the web. The web is then folded in a folder that is a part of the printing machine to thereby form at least one of the inserts of the printed product. The printed product is laid out at an exit of the folder and the web is folded in such a manner that a final format of each insert completely shows one of these printed pages. Before the printed product is laid out at the exit of the folder, inserts which belong to the same printed product are collected in the folder by placing these inserts one atop the other.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 1, 2005Publication date: November 1, 2007Applicant: KOENIG & BAUER AKTIENGESELLSCHAFTInventor: Rudolf Stab

Patent number: 6019714Abstract: A folding apparatus is used to cross-fold printed matter, particularly of variable section lengths. Damage to the printed products is avoided, even at high production speeds. This is accomplished by providing a signature divider after a transverse cutting device, and before two parallel cross-folding devices. The signatures divider alternatingly direct the signatures into two product flow paths. Each product flow path acts as a deceleration line so that the signatures are delivered to the cross-folding devices at half of their original speed.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1998Date of Patent: February 1, 2000Assignee: Koenig & Bauer AktiengesellschaftInventor: Rudolf Stab

Patent number: 5950516Abstract: Cutting bars positioned on the peripheral surface of a cutting cylinder are shiftable circumferentially toward or away from each other to vary the lengths of signatures being produced when the folding apparatus is switched between collection and no collection production. The cutting bars are shiftable circumferentially in grooves provided on the surface of the cutting cylinder.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1997Date of Patent: September 14, 1999Assignee: Albert-Frankenthal AktiengesellschaftInventor: Rudolf Stab

Patent number: 5899843Abstract: A folding table for use in forming a third fold in a printed product, is provided with a plurality of detents that can be shifted into and out of the movement path of the product. Any accumulated paper remnants can be removed from the folding table when the detents, or selected ones of the detents are moved out of the product path. The method of operation of the device facilitates the elimination of production interruptions.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 1997Date of Patent: May 4, 1999Assignee: Koenig & Bauer-Albert AktiengesellschaftInventor: Rudolf Stab

Patent number: 5803450Abstract: A device for conveying flat floppy products has an inlet conveyor belt with a constant velocity, an intermediate conveyor belt with a periodically changing velocity and an outlet conveyor belt with constant velocity. The intermediate conveyor belt causes a deceleration or acceleration of the product to be conveyed. Transfer of the product between the conveyor belts takes place at respectively the same velocities of the affected belts. The drive of the intermediate conveyor belt is performed by a gear making periodic gear changes. The invention relates to the relationship between the shaft distance and the radius of the drive pulley of the intermediate conveyor belt and is particularly related to steps reducing the torque during acceleration or deceleration of the drive elements and assuring a slip-free conveyance of the products.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 1996Date of Patent: September 8, 1998Assignee: Koenig & Bauer-Albert AktiengesellschaftInventors: Heido Brokate, Ralph Jakob, Friedrich Jarchow, Rudolf Stab, Klaus-Jurgen Taubert, Ming Liu

Patent number: 5573231Abstract: A folding apparatus for a rotary printing machine utilizes a plurality of belt guide systems to retain signatures against the surfaces of the collecting, folding and gripper cylinders of the folding apparatus. The position of a longitudinal folder or of a turning bar or bars can be shifted in the axial direction of the collecting cylinder at least the width of one belt to align at least one longitudinal edge of the signatures with one of the belts in the belt guide system. The grippers on the collecting cylinder will engage the leading edge of the signatures without damaging them.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1994Date of Patent: November 12, 1996Assignee: Albert-Frankenthal AktiengesellschaftInventor: Rudolf Stab
-
Patent number: 5520378Abstract: A folding apparatus for rotary printing presses uses at least a single stage speed reducing device between a collection cylinder and a folding blade cylinder to reduce the speed of travel of signatures before they are cross-folded. The reduction in the speed of travel of the signatures eliminates damage to the signatures during their cross folding while allowing the printing press to operate at a high rate of speed.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1994Date of Patent: May 28, 1996Assignee: Albert Frankenthal AktiengesellschaftInventors: Manfred Kepert, Rudolf Stab

Patent number: 5484379Abstract: A folder for a web-fed rotary printing press includes a cooperating pair of collection and cutting cylinders to sever a paper web into web segments. A belt conveyor system enwraps a portion of the surface of the collection cylinder just before an intake point of the paper ribbon between the collection cylinder and the cutting cylinder. This belt conveyor system prevents the newly created leading edge of the paper ribbon from springing back.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 1993Date of Patent: January 16, 1996Assignee: Albert-Frankenthal AktiengesellschaftInventor: Rudolf Stab
-
Patent number: 5147276Abstract: A longitudinal folding device for folding symmetrical and asymmetrical paper products has a folding blade and cooperating folding rollers whose positions with respect to each other can be varied. The folding blade or the folding roller pair can be shifted laterally with respect to a longitudinal fold line. In addition, the spacing between the folding rollers can be adjusted in accordance with paper thickness and number of sheets in the product to be folded.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 1991Date of Patent: September 15, 1992Assignee: Albert-Frankenthal AGInventor: Rudolf Stab
