    Abstract: A printed product, with a number of inserts, is printed on a printing machine. The pages of the inserts are printed by the printing machine as product pages on the web. The web is then folded in a folder that is a part of the printing machine to thereby form at least one of the inserts of the printed product. The printed product is laid out at an exit of the folder and the web is folded in such a manner that a final format of each insert completely shows one of these printed pages. Before the printed product is laid out at the exit of the folder, inserts which belong to the same printed product are collected in the folder by placing these inserts one atop the other.

    Abstract: A folding apparatus is used to cross-fold printed matter, particularly of variable section lengths. Damage to the printed products is avoided, even at high production speeds. This is accomplished by providing a signature divider after a transverse cutting device, and before two parallel cross-folding devices. The signatures divider alternatingly direct the signatures into two product flow paths. Each product flow path acts as a deceleration line so that the signatures are delivered to the cross-folding devices at half of their original speed.

    Abstract: A device for conveying flat floppy products has an inlet conveyor belt with a constant velocity, an intermediate conveyor belt with a periodically changing velocity and an outlet conveyor belt with constant velocity. The intermediate conveyor belt causes a deceleration or acceleration of the product to be conveyed. Transfer of the product between the conveyor belts takes place at respectively the same velocities of the affected belts. The drive of the intermediate conveyor belt is performed by a gear making periodic gear changes. The invention relates to the relationship between the shaft distance and the radius of the drive pulley of the intermediate conveyor belt and is particularly related to steps reducing the torque during acceleration or deceleration of the drive elements and assuring a slip-free conveyance of the products.

    Abstract: A folding apparatus for a rotary printing machine utilizes a plurality of belt guide systems to retain signatures against the surfaces of the collecting, folding and gripper cylinders of the folding apparatus. The position of a longitudinal folder or of a turning bar or bars can be shifted in the axial direction of the collecting cylinder at least the width of one belt to align at least one longitudinal edge of the signatures with one of the belts in the belt guide system. The grippers on the collecting cylinder will engage the leading edge of the signatures without damaging them.

This belt conveyor system prevents the newly created leading edge of the paper ribbon from springing back.
