Patent number: 5803450Abstract: A device for conveying flat floppy products has an inlet conveyor belt with a constant velocity, an intermediate conveyor belt with a periodically changing velocity and an outlet conveyor belt with constant velocity. The intermediate conveyor belt causes a deceleration or acceleration of the product to be conveyed. Transfer of the product between the conveyor belts takes place at respectively the same velocities of the affected belts. The drive of the intermediate conveyor belt is performed by a gear making periodic gear changes. The invention relates to the relationship between the shaft distance and the radius of the drive pulley of the intermediate conveyor belt and is particularly related to steps reducing the torque during acceleration or deceleration of the drive elements and assuring a slip-free conveyance of the products.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 1996Date of Patent: September 8, 1998Assignee: Koenig & Bauer-Albert AktiengesellschaftInventors: Heido Brokate, Ralph Jakob, Friedrich Jarchow, Rudolf Stab, Klaus-Jurgen Taubert, Ming Liu

Patent number: 5573231Abstract: A folding apparatus for a rotary printing machine utilizes a plurality of belt guide systems to retain signatures against the surfaces of the collecting, folding and gripper cylinders of the folding apparatus. The position of a longitudinal folder or of a turning bar or bars can be shifted in the axial direction of the collecting cylinder at least the width of one belt to align at least one longitudinal edge of the signatures with one of the belts in the belt guide system. The grippers on the collecting cylinder will engage the leading edge of the signatures without damaging them.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1994Date of Patent: November 12, 1996Assignee: Albert-Frankenthal AktiengesellschaftInventor: Rudolf Stab

Patent number: 5520378Abstract: A folding apparatus for rotary printing presses uses at least a single stage speed reducing device between a collection cylinder and a folding blade cylinder to reduce the speed of travel of signatures before they are cross-folded. The reduction in the speed of travel of the signatures eliminates damage to the signatures during their cross folding while allowing the printing press to operate at a high rate of speed.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1994Date of Patent: May 28, 1996Assignee: Albert Frankenthal AktiengesellschaftInventors: Manfred Kepert, Rudolf Stab

Patent number: 5484379Abstract: A folder for a web-fed rotary printing press includes a cooperating pair of collection and cutting cylinders to sever a paper web into web segments. A belt conveyor system enwraps a portion of the surface of the collection cylinder just before an intake point of the paper ribbon between the collection cylinder and the cutting cylinder. This belt conveyor system prevents the newly created leading edge of the paper ribbon from springing back.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 1993Date of Patent: January 16, 1996Assignee: Albert-Frankenthal AktiengesellschaftInventor: Rudolf Stab

Patent number: 5147276Abstract: A longitudinal folding device for folding symmetrical and asymmetrical paper products has a folding blade and cooperating folding rollers whose positions with respect to each other can be varied. The folding blade or the folding roller pair can be shifted laterally with respect to a longitudinal fold line. In addition, the spacing between the folding rollers can be adjusted in accordance with paper thickness and number of sheets in the product to be folded.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 1991Date of Patent: September 15, 1992Assignee: Albert-Frankenthal AGInventor: Rudolf Stab

Patent number: 4995858Abstract: A device for halting sheet products transported by a conveyor belt, comprising an abutment having a conveyor belt passing through it and an adjustable braking device placed ahead of the abutment. By this arrangement it is possible to ensure a high degree of convenience of operation and of reliability if the impact of the products on the abutment is able to be sensed by means of a sensing device and the position of the braking device is able to be corrected in accordance with an output value produced by the sensing device.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 1990Date of Patent: February 26, 1991Assignee: Albert-Frankenthal AGInventor: Rudolf Stab

Patent number: 4861326Abstract: In a folding apparatus with a transverse cutting and transverse folding unit fed by a first longitudinal folding unit and with a second longitudinal folding unit followed by a delivery unit, simple development and expansion of the folding apparatus step by step is made possible by arranging the transverse cutting and transverse folding unit on a basic frame and arranging the second longitudinal folding unit on a lower additional frame. Furthermore the basic and additional frame are arranged at the same level and are provided with connection structure adjacent to each other and over the connection on the basic frame there is a further connection structure for a superposed frame with transverse and longitudinal forming unit. The additional frame is provided with support surfaces for the superposed frame which has corresponding surfaces.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 1987Date of Patent: August 29, 1989Assignee: Albert-Frankenthal AGInventors: Rudolf Kuhner, Gunter K. Schmitt, Rudolf Stab

Patent number: 4629175Abstract: Sheet-like products coming off a folder are firstly transported some distance before being caused to overlap. In order to slow down the products to cause this to take place and to arrange them in a perfectly regular feed stream without being damaged, the products are engaged by grippers that are moved along a preferably arcuate path on a support in the course of which the products are slowed down by the grippers to the speed of a delivery belt on which the products are then deposited.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 1985Date of Patent: December 16, 1986Assignee: Albert-Frankenthal AGInventors: Emil Fischer, Rudolf Stab

Patent number: 4465544Abstract: In connection with an apparatus for putting paste on a moving printed paper web in strips at a right angle to the direction of motion of the web by moving the web between a pasting cylinder and a web support part on the other side of the web, one purpose of the invention is to make certain that the strips of paste may be put on at a high speed and to have such a design that the upkeep work on the apparatus is simple and may be done quickly. To make this possible, the pasting cylinder is made up of cylinder body and a paster roll placed within it so that a limited area of its outer face is uncovered by an axial slot in the outer face of the body. The paster roll has one or more wells stretching along it that are topped up with paste at a point within the pasting cylinder body, while the parts of the outer face of the roll between the wells are stripped and kept clear of the paste.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 1983Date of Patent: August 14, 1984Assignee: Albert-Frankenthal AGInventors: Rudolph Fischer, Rudolf Stab

Patent number: 4416652Abstract: For the purpose of helping in the making of a second lengthways fold in a web of paper in a folder having a folder blade for producing this fold, the paper is firstly scored at the desired fold position in the long direction by a sharp-edged wheel pushing the paper against a turning back-up part, which is let into the face of one of the nipper or guiding rolls of the folder. The wheel with the sharp edge is placed on the other, opposite roll between separate roll parts or wheels thereon gripping the web against the other roll.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1981Date of Patent: November 22, 1983Assignee: Albert-Frankenthal AGInventors: Rudolf Fischer, Rudolf Stab
