  • Patent number: 7405515
Abstract: A display device using an organic light emitting element is provided which is structured so as to ensure excellent display performance by avoiding dot defect and improve long-term reliability. The distance between an organic light emitting element and a sealing substrate is controlled using the top of a bank that is placed in a pixel portion and the top of an insulating film that is placed in a driving circuit portion. As a result, a gap is provided between the organic light emitting element and the sealing substrate and a damage to the organic light emitting element can be avoided. Furthermore, the sealing substrate can be as close to an element substrate as possible, thereby keeping the amount of moisture that enters the display device from its sides small.

  • Patent number: 7348953
Abstract: A method of driving a liquid crystal display device is provided which can decrease the hysteresis of thresholdless liquid crystal and which can, depending on the liquid crystal, improve the response time. By providing a ā€œ0 Vā€ reset period before or after a gradation display period, the hysteresis of the thresholdless liquid crystal is prevented. With regard to a liquid crystal which has a small spontaneous polarization and with which switching between halftones takes a lot of time, there is an effect of improving the response time by switching via ā€œ0 Vā€.

  • Patent number: 7342630
Abstract: The leakage of light and the disclination occur at the ends of the pixel electrodes where the equipotential lines bend toward the pixel electrodes. A dielectric 207 having a high dielectric constant is provided at the ends of the pixel electrodes to lift up the equipotential lines toward the opposing electrode, in order to decrease the leakage of light and the disclination.

  • Patent number: 7327412
Abstract: In a horizontal electric field drive type liquid crystal electro-optic device wherein a liquid crystal material is driven by controlling the strength of an electric field parallel to a substrate, noncontinuity of the electric field strength around each pixel electrode is minimized and thereby the occurrence of flaws in the orientation of the liquid crystal material and dispersion in operation are reduced and a construction having improved display characteristics and a method of manufacturing the same are provided. In a horizontal electric field drive type liquid crystal electro-optic device wherein a gate electrode 403, a source electrode 407, a drain electrode 408, a semiconductor film 406 and a common electrode 404 are formed on a glass substrate and a liquid crystal material is driven by controlling the strength of an electric field substantially parallel to the glass substrate, the electrodes and the semiconductor film are made curved, for example semi-circular or semi-elliptical, in sectional profile.

  • Publication number: 20070268439
Abstract: Disclination of an active matrix liquid crystal display device is reduced. Portions of pixel electrodes are formed so as to mutually overlap with a convex portion. If the height of the convex portion is too tall, the amount of light leakage increases due to liquid crystals orienting diagonally with respect to a substrate surface. (See FIG. 1C.) If the height of the convex portion is low, the disclination reduction effect is low. The optimal convex portion height is thus determined.

  • Publication number: 20060199461
Abstract: The object of the present invention is to propose a structure of a display device in which water is prevented from passing through the side faces of a display device using an organic light-emitting element and a gap between substrates is made uniform. On the first substrate having the light-emitting element provided thereon, the thicknesses of the layers deposited in the peripheral area, the pixel portion and the driving circuit portion are equalized with each other. Furthermore, an adhesive is provided as thin as possible in the peripheral area of the first substrate so as to bond a second substrate to the first substrate. As a result, the distance between the first substrate and the second substrate can be made uniform throughout the peripheral area of the first substrate, the pixel portion and the driving circuit.
