  • Patent number: 10657144
Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatus include computer programs encoded on a computer-readable storage medium, including a system for ranking videos. Videos are identified that have been presented at client devices. For each video, session start data is identified that specifies a lead video that initiated presentation to a user during a presentation session. For each lead video, presentation times over multiple user sessions are determined, a scaled presentation time is obtained, user sessions for which the lead video initiated presentation of videos are identified, and an aggregate video presentation time attributable to the lead video is determined. For each given video, a presentation score is determined based on a scaled presentation time of the lead video relative to a sum of the aggregate video presentation times for the lead videos. The videos are ranked based on the presentation scores. A user interface is updated to present the ranked videos.

  • Publication number: 20200090218
Abstract: An engagement time computer system for serving online content based on user engagement duration includes an output device, at least one memory, and one or more processors. The processors are configured to determine a historical engagement time of an online user and to identify a plurality of online content items. Each online content item of the plurality of online content items has a target engagement time. The processors are further configured to receive a request for a content item. The request is associated with the online user. The processors are also configured to select a first online content item from the plurality of online content items based at least in part on the historical engagement time of the online user and the target engagement time of the first online content item and to transmit the first online content item for display to the online user.

  • Publication number: 20200050346
Abstract: Implementations relate to continuation of playback of media content by different devices. In some implementations, a method includes causing a stream of media content data to be received from a stream source and output by a first device to a user, where a portion of the data is buffered on the first device before output. An indication is detected that the user has stopped using the first device for output of the content data. A place marker indicates a portion of the content that is output approximately at the time of the indication. The method causes the stream of content data to be received and output by a second device starting at the place marker portion. The buffered content data is sent from the first device to the second device for output by the second device before unbuffered portions of the content data received from the stream source.

Abstract: A computer-implemented technique can include providing, at a computing device including one or more processors, a chat application user interface for display. The chat application user interface can be associated with a real-time chat communication between a user of the computing device and another user of another computing device via a chat application. The technique can also include determining that the user of the computing device is interacting with a non-chat application other than the chat application. Additionally, the technique can include determining shareable content of the non-chat application and modifying the chat application user interface to include a selectable indicator of the shareable content. The technique can also include receiving a selection of the selectable indicator by the user, and in response to receiving the selection, transmitting the shareable content of the non-chat application to the other user of the other computing device via the chat application.

  • Patent number: 10462531
Abstract: Systems and methods for automatically identifying non-canonical user sessions utilize demographics associated with a device identifier in comparison to demographics associated with requested content (e.g. video, website, etc.). If the demographics match above a threshold, then the session may be assumed to be canonical or associated with the original user. If the demographics of the content do not match the demographics of the user, then the session may be considered non-canonical. Upon identifying a non-canonical session, content selection based on demographics may be suspended until a timer expires or the session ends.
