  • Publication number: 20160352893
Abstract: To provide flexible capabilities to agencies, an agency service configures a virtual number for wiretapping communications between subjects and an informant. A wiretap module executing on the informant's device registers with the agency service for authorization to utilize a virtual number for wiretapping the informant device. The wiretapping module works in conjunction with the agency service to covertly route communications between the informant device and subject device through the virtual number, which may be monitored by agency personnel and the communications thereon recorded. Through the described wiretapping system, the informant may communicate with subjects in a traditional fashion utilizing the informant device all the while the communications are monitored and recorded with low cost to the agency.

  • Publication number: 20160309012
Abstract: Agencies oftentimes desire to monitor personnel in the field during the course of their duties. To provide flexible monitoring capabilities to agencies, a common mobile device such as a mobile phone is converted for use as a radio-based listening system to collect and transmit audio data. A relay is implemented within the system to pass message communications between the mobile device and a server such that the server can facilitate establishment of sessions for monitoring the mobile device.

  • Publication number: 20160142895
Abstract: A system enables a device such as a mobile phone to operate as a transmitter and receiver over non-cellular radio frequencies such as very-high frequency (VHF) and ultra-high frequency (UHF) not natively compatible with the mobile phone. The system includes a radio appliance coupled to a radio that receives and transmits information over non-cellular radio frequencies. The radio appliance provides an interface between the radio and a web appliance accessible on a network such as the internet. The radio appliance receives information in broadcast from the radio and transmits the information to the web appliance over the network. The web appliance provides mobile devices access to the information received from the radio appliance, such as audio that was broadcast, over the network. Additionally, the web appliance may receive information from the mobile phone for transmission to the radio appliance and subsequent broadcast by the radio.

  • Publication number: 20160119472
Abstract: Agencies issue recording devices to personnel for administrating and monitoring controlled calls during the course of their duties. To provide flexible capabilities to agencies, a virtual number is provisioned and configured to enable an operator to administrate controlled calls without dedicated recording devices. Using the virtual number, the operator may setup a controlled call between a victim and a baddie. The victim is contacted via the virtual number by the operator and optionally informed about the controlled call process. In turn, the baddie is contacted using number information of the victim's phone and connected with the victim. Call audio between the victim and baddie is transmitted to the operator. When necessary, the operator may terminate the call remotely from the telephonic device the operator used to setup the call.

  • Patent number: 9277052
Abstract: A recording of a subject is covertly generated prior to, and subsequent to an operator answering the call. The recording of the subject prior to the operator answering the call involves recording the subject and/or enabling the operator to listen in on the subject prior to indicating to the subject that the operator is communicating on the line. The subject is connected and a ring tone is generated and played back to the subject while audio received from the subject on the connection is recorded or otherwise monitored. Playback of the ringtone leads the subject to believe a connection has not yet been established. The operator may listen to the audio transmitted by the subject without the subject knowing the operator is covertly ascertaining situational information. The operator may provide a selection or answer the call to begin bi-direction communication with the subject which causes the ring tone to cease playing and lead the subject to believe the connection has just been established.

  • Patent number: 9271112
Abstract: A geolocation system enables law enforcement officers to geolocate a mobile phone, or target device, during the course of police business. In a consented geolocation request, an officer requests, via the geolocation system, that the user of a target device be prompted to grant the officer permission to geolocate the target device. If the user allows the request, the officer may, in turn, geolocate the target device with the geolocation system. In a surreptitious geolocation request, the officer circumvents any request for user permission to grant the officer permission to geolocate the target device. Instead, the officer utilizes the geolocation system to generate a surreptitious request package which contains the necessary legal and situational information required to geolocate the target device without the user's consent. Once a submitted request is registered, the officer may geolocate the target device.

  • Patent number: 9270814
Abstract: Agencies issue multiple devices to personnel for maintaining distinct identities over the course of assigned investigations. To provide flexible capabilities to agencies, a phone is converted for use with multiple attached telephone numbers. Accordingly, a single phone may be used to manage multiple identities over the course of one or more investigations. Using a multiple attached number, a given device can place and receive calls over the network to and from contacts. In addition to providing multiple attached numbers, calls using the multiple attached numbers may be monitored live and recorded to establish evidence.

  • Publication number: 20150365520
Abstract: Embodiments of the systems and methods described herein relate to covertly monitoring call audio and obtaining other communications of a source device with a target device. For example, a source, with a mobile phone configured as the source device, and working in cooperation with an agency agrees to the interception communications at the source device. A covert application provided to the source device manages configuration of the source device and covert interception of the communications. The intercepting of communications at the source device is performed covertly to protect the source in instances where the source is an undercover informant with the agency.

  • Publication number: 20150222746
Abstract: A negotiator makes and receives calls and SMS with a subject through a virtual number. Parties of individuals serving specialized functions are optionally dialed in to monitor the call/receive the SMS each time those communications occur. Alternatively, a member of a particular party can dial in ahead of a call and be placed in a waiting room for the party until the call happens. Different parties may have different functions. For example, one party may be configured such that members can discuss amongst themselves while hearing the negotiator and the subject communicate. Another party may be configured such that communications among the members is disabled such that each member only hears audio from the negotiator and subject.

  • Publication number: 20150215254
Abstract: An inmate communication system is configured to manage the sending and receiving of messages on a messaging service between an inmate incarcerated in a correctional institution and other inmates, or between the inmate and a contact located outside of the facility. Example messaging services include SMS and MMS. Inmates are provided access to a messaging terminal. The inmates interact with the messaging terminal to compose messages for transmission and view received message transmissions. The message communications of the inmates and contacts are analyzed prior to transmission to the recipient. Message contents are analyzed for flagged key-words and flagged sender/recipients. Flagged messages may be placed in an approval queue prior to their delivery for approval or rejection.
