    Abstract: A transmission support for securing a transmission to a rotorcraft includes two side beams each including a roof beam portion configured to be secured to structural elements of the rotorcraft cabin, and a pylon beam portion extending from the roof beam portion toward the other of the side beams. The pylon beam portion is configured to engage the transmission upon the transmission being received between the side beams. The support further has cross beams extending between and interconnecting the two side beams. The side beams and cross beams are part of a monolithic structure. A method of manufacturing the transmission support is provided.

    Abstract: Layers of plies of composite material are laid on a convex tool surface. A first layer is placed with a first ply of a first section having a gap edge adjacent a gap edge of a first ply of a second section, the edges being parallel and a contraction distance from each other. A second layer is placed with a second ply of the first section having a gap edge adjacent a gap edge of a second ply of the second section, the edges being parallel and a contraction distance from each other, the second ply of the second section overlapping onto the first ply of the first section by a splice distance. Consolidation and curing cause contraction of the layers toward the tool, allowing the adjacent gap edges of each layer to be in close proximity or in contact after moving toward each other during the contraction.

    Abstract: Methods and systems for automated placement of composite material on a surface of a component, the composite material including unidirectional fibers, is provided. A set of fiber paths along the surface is established, the set of fiber paths comprising at least one ply, each ply comprising a respective plurality of fiber paths being substantially aligned with a respective direction. An isotropy factor for the component is determined based on the set of fiber paths, the isotropy factor being indicative of a distribution of the plurality of fiber paths on the surface. When the isotropy factor exceeds a predetermined threshold, a respective layer of composite material is applied to the surface of the component using an automated fiber placement machine and for each of the at least one ply, wherein the unidirectional fibers of the composite material are applied along the set of fiber paths.

    Abstract: A membrane contactor for separating components from a feed gas stream comprises a housing, a feed gas inlet for receiving the feed gas stream at a first pressure, and a liquid inlet or receiving a stream of liquid at a second pressure, the liquid containing an absorbent for reacting components of the gas stream and a slip gas outlet. The contactor also includes a plurality of fibers with pore channels in contact with the feed gas incoming from the gas inlet on a first side, and in contact with liquid incoming from the liquid inlet on a second side, producing a gas-liquid interface at the pore channels. Liquid is prevented from wetting the pore channels by maintaining the first pressure of the gas stream higher than the liquid stream, and a portion of the gas stream bubbles through as slip gas into the liquid stream due to the elevated pressure.

A hydrogen charging surface is provided at a first location on an external surface of the structure. In addition, a hydrogen oxidation surface is provided at a second location adjacent to the first location on the external surface of the structure. Hydrogen flux is generated and directed into the metal surface at the charging surface. At least a portion of the hydrogen flux generated by the charging surface is diverted back toward the surface. A transient of the diverted hydrogen fluxes measured, and this measurement is used to determine the hydrogen diffusivity of the metal structure in service.
