  • Patent number: 9686771
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for transmitting and receiving data by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) over the control plane. The methods may receive data without the use of an Internet Protocol (IP) address. In an example method, a WTRU may enter an evolved packet system (EPS) mobility management (EMM)-registered control plane only (CPO) state after receiving an attach accepted message for CPO operation, and enter an EMM-deregistered state after receiving a detach message, a tracking area update (TAU) reject message or an attach reject message. In another method, a WTRU may switch between operational modes that use an IP address and a user plane to transmit and receive data, and the CPO mode.

  • Publication number: 20170150390
Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing user plane congestion in a network are disclosed. A method performed by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) for user plane congestion in a network includes receiving an indication from the network that user plane congestion exists in the network, transmitting a request for the network to provide a lower Quality of Service (QoS) level for a particular service based on the indication, and observing a decrease in user plane QoS based on the transmitted request.

  • Publication number: 20170135135
Abstract: A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may detect cell congestion by selecting a preamble type as a function of priority level, transmitting the preamble to a serving cell, receiving a random access response (RAR) from the serving cell, determining a congestion state of the serving cell as a function of the received RAR, and/or responding to the congestion state of the serving cell. RACH functionality may be improved by allocating one or more sets of Physical RACH (PRACH) resources to a WTRU. The WTRU may configure the additional PRACH resources based on the allocation. A WTRU may determine a second set of PRACH resources based at least in part on a first set of PRACH resources. A WTRU may determine additional sets of PRACH preambles and may utilize modified PRACH preambles and/or modified PRACH preamble formats. The WTRU may signal additional PRACH resources.

  • Patent number: 9648657
Abstract: Method and apparatus for controlling connectivity to a network for intermittent data services are disclosed. A new dormant mode is defined such that a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may transition from a connected state or an idle state to the dormant mode based on triggering conditions. The WTRU may transition from a connected state or an idle state to a dormant mode if the characteristic or the priority of the data matches a characteristics or a priority for the dormant mode and operate using configuration which is different from configuration used for the connected state or the idle state. The WTRU in the dormant mode may perform a WTRU-controlled mobility procedure. The WTRU in the dormant mode may maintain a dedicated resource, such as a cell radio network temporary identity (C-RNTI), for receiving a unicast traffic from the network.

  • Publication number: 20160381491
Abstract: Systems, methods, and instrumentalities are disclosed for priority handling for ProSe Communications. A relay wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may act as a relay between the network and the remote WTRU. The relay WTRU may receive a temporary mobile group identity (TMGI) request message from a remote WTRU. The TMGI request message may include a TMGI, a ProSe per packet priority level associated with the TMGI, etc. The relay WTRU may receive an evolved multimedia broadcast multicast service (eMBMS) data packet from a network. The eMBMS may be associated with the TMGI. The relay WTRU may apply the received ProSe per packet priority level associated with the TMGI to the received eMBMS data packet. The relay WTRU may relay the eMBMS data packet to the remote WTRU based on the ProSe per packet priority level. The relay WTRU may forward the eMBMS data packet to the remote WTRU via a PC5 interface.

  • Publication number: 20160373987
Abstract: Small cell enhancement for dual connectivity operation and/or the impact of such enhancement for the support of the example LIPA/SIPTO architecture may be useful. The L-GW shown could be a collocated L-GW (e.g., with S-GW not shown) and/or a standalone L-GW with S-GW capabilities. Embodiments recognize the scenario of the SIPTO above RAN and/or SIPTO at local network, perhaps with standalone combined gateway. Embodiments contemplate that it may be useful to provide support of/for LIPA/SIPTO at a local network with a collocated gateway in a dual connectivity mode, among other scenarios. Embodiments also contemplate the usefulness for providing the capability of supporting the dual connectivity operation in multiple scenarios.

  • Publication number: 20160323918
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed that determine whether service continuity is allowed in a target cell for a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) connected to a source local gateway (LGW) via a local internet protocol access (LIPA) Packet Data Network (PDN) connection. The existence of a connection between the source LGW and a target LGW is also determined. Whether the WTRU user settings allow service continuity is determined. On a condition that service continuity is not allowed for the target LGW or for the WTRU, the LIPA PDN connection is deactivated. On a condition that service continuity is allowed for the target network and for the WTRU, the LIPA PDN connection is maintained. Methods for handling handover, paging and emergency calls are also described herein.

  • Publication number: 20160295504
Abstract: Methods and apparatus may be used for selecting power saving mechanisms in a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU). For example, a WTRU may support at least power saving mode (PSM) and/or extended discontinuous reception (eDRX) mode. The WTRU may send a request message including parameters associated with the supported power saving mechanisms, such as an active time for PSM and a preferred DRX value for eDRX mode. The WTRU may receive an accept message including at least one selected parameter indicating the power saving mechanism for the WTRU selected by the network (NW). The WTRU may activate the selected power saving mechanism, and may start a validity timer to define the duration of use of the selected power saving mechanism. In another example, a WTRU configured to use eDRX may receive paging signals for system information (SI) change over a prolonged Broadcast Control Channel (BCCH) modification period.

  • Patent number: 9462477
Abstract: Flexible sharing of common radio access network (RAN) resources may pool unallocated resources. For example, sharing of the network resources may be static, e.g., the sharing contract may define a fixed percentage allocation of network resources that may not be modified without change in contract. The sharing of the network resource may also be dynamic and may accommodate the capacity needs of hosted operators on a real-time basis.
