  • Publication number: 20220364729
Abstract: A combustor for a gas turbine engine. The combustor has a combustor liner that includes a vortex turbulence generator. The vortex turbulence generator has a flow passage extending therethrough, the flow passage being defined by a wall about a periphery of the flow passage, and a plurality of vortex generating turbulators disposed on the wall, each of the plurality of vortex generating turbulators a projection portion extending from a surface of the wall into the flow passage and generating a vortex turbulent flow of an oxidizer passing through the flow passage from a cold surface side of the combustor liner to a hot surface side of the combustor liner.

  • Publication number: 20220333526
Abstract: A gas turbine engine that includes a combustor configured for efficient combustion of fuel for the generation of combustion gases. The engine includes an annular combustor that includes an annular wall that defines a channel configured to conduct hot combustion gases along a flow-path of combustion gases. The annular wall has an exterior first surface and an interior second surface. A plurality of dilution holes is defined through the wall. Each dilution hole is defined by a dilution hole surface that extends between an entry end and an exit end. The entry end is defined by the first surface and the exit end is defined by the second surface such that the dilution hole has a convergent and then divergent cross-sectional profile. The entry end has a first geometric shape and the exit end has a second geometric shape that is different than the second geometric shape.

  • Publication number: 20220290861
Abstract: A liner for a combustor in a gas turbine engine. The liner may include a liner body having a cold side and a hot side. The liner may include a dilution opening and a passage extending through the liner body. The passage may be positioned adjacent the dilution opening. The passage may be angled with respect to an interior surface of the liner body. A dilution flow may flow through the dilution opening from the cold side to the hot side and a secondary flow may flow through the passage from the cold side to the hot side. The secondary flow may exit into the hot side behind the dilution flow and may suppresses wakes formed behind the dilution flow on the hot side of the liner.

  • Patent number: 11226101
Abstract: A gas turbine engine swirler that includes a tubular body having a forward face, an aft end, and a throat. A plurality of primary swirl vanes that is positioned between the aft end and the forward face. A plurality of secondary swirl vanes that is positioned between the primary swirl vanes and the aft end. The plurality of primary swirl vanes and the plurality of secondary swirl vanes are configured such that the throat is fluidly connected to a plenum that is positioned outside of the tubular body. A tubular ferrule is positioned such that it joins the body at the forward face thereof. Each of the primary swirl vanes extend radially inwardly to a vane lip. The secondary swirl vanes extend radially inwardly for swirling air therefrom. The body also includes a tubular Venturi that extends aft from between the primary swirler vanes and the secondary swirler vanes for radially separating air swirled therefrom.
