  • Publication number: 20120093075
Abstract: Disclosed are methods, apparatus and computer program products that provide an enhanced multi-SIM wireless communication device. For example, a method includes providing in a wireless communication device a protocol stack software component composed of a first native protocol stack software and a second native protocol stack software each comprising layer 1, layer 2 and layer 3 protocol stack functionality. The first native protocol stack software and the second native protocol stack software are each associated with a respective subscriber identity module and are independent of one another. The method further includes providing in the wireless communication device a common software component that includes protocol stack framework software elements, a hardware arbitration layer and a hardware adaptation layer.

  • Patent number: 7765325
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of compressing or decompressing a signaling message in a packet data network, wherein a parameter information is provided in a header portion of a protocol message of the packet data network. The parameter information specifies at least one processing detail of a compression or decompression mechanism and is forwarded together with the protocol message through the packet data network to a compression or decompression function of the packet data network. The compression or decompression mechanism at the compression or decompression function is then set in accordance with the parameter information. Thereby, a better compression of the first or first few messages can be achieved, as the parameter information is directly available.

  • Publication number: 20050213566
Abstract: The invention provides a method, system, terminal, and access network for selecting a service or service provider in a shared network configuration which includes at least one terminal, at least one access network, and at least two alternatively selectable services or service providers accessible via the access network. The access network broadcasts, to the terminal, a shared network domain, SND, code which indicates that at least two services or service providers are accessible via the access network. The broadcast SND code is changed only when there is a change in available services or service providers accessible via the access network. The terminal checks, only when SND code changes, available services or service providers by accessing a memory storing a list of SND codes and associated services or service providers. The terminal or the access network or another network element selects a service or service provider available in the shared network.

  • Patent number: 6510146
Abstract: For transmitting information about the neighbouring cells to mobile stations, a base station of a cellular radio system creates a message (27, 27′) containing information about the neighbouring cells and transmits it to the mobile station. In addition to the transmission frequencies used in the neighbouring cells, the base station includes in the message other information characterizing the neighbouring cells (32a, 32b, 32c, 34). In particular, the base station includes in the message information about the quality of service offered to mobile stations by each of the neighbouring cells mentioned in the message. On the basis of the message, the mobile station makes a preliminary selection of a group of the most advantageous new cells and performs measurements among this preliminary selection in order to find a suitable new cell (41, 47). If the measurements show that there is at least one suitable new cell among the preliminary selection, the mobile station selects a new cell from this group (42).

  • Publication number: 20020119776
Abstract: A handover is performed between cells of different networks during a call. A call established between handset (18) and mobile handset MS1 through cell CA1 or mobile network PLMN A is handover during the call to PLMN B through cell CB1. Procedures to control inter-PLMN handovers are described in which the service provider for PLMN A supports the inter-PLMN handover as a supplementary service. Support of the service may be indicated in a classmark stored in EEPROM (9) of handset MS1 or on its SIM card (12). The service provider for PLMN A may include data in the classmark that indicates whether the user of the handset may selectively accept or decline inter-PLMN handovers. A procedure for carrying out a location update after release of the call is also described.

  • Publication number: 20020068574
Abstract: A mobile station such as a telephone handset (1) for a mobile radio telecommunications system, is operable in different, user selectable configurations for which radio transmissions are made with different frequencies or signal formats so that the user can roam from a home network (PLMN A) to a another network (PLMN B) which operates in a different configuration to the HPLMN. The handset (1) includes a controller (8) to cause a search to be made for transmissions corresponding to a plurality of the different configurations when a configuration for a roamed network has been selected by the user so as to enable the handset to find the HPLMN when returning to the network coverage area of the HPLMN.

  • Patent number: 6167283
Abstract: Cellular radio system base stations (10, 12) offer various service levels and transmit control messages (14) indicating said service levels. Terminals (20) store information (22) about previous connections and, based on that information or on their own capability, produce a prediction on the service level required by the next connection. A terminal selects a cell such that the service level in the cell matches the terminal's prediction on the service level required.

  • Patent number: 6032038
Abstract: A method and arrangement for limiting the use of a mobile telephone is characterized in that it involves setting a time limit (TIMER.sub.-- VALUE) in said mobile telephone (20). The time limit can be set for accumulated operating time or elapsed time in general. Setting of the limit is advantageously made possible by means of a secret code (SECRET.sub.-- KEY). Thereafter, the mobile telephone begins measuring time, and when the elapsed or accumulated time reaches the set limit, operation of the mobile telephone (20) is blocked. Then, only operation by which a new time limit can be set or the block can be removed is allowed. A mobile telephone manufacturer can easily realize an arrangement according to the present invention in a mobile telephone, and said arrangement can just as easily be implemented by, for example, a mobile telephone renter. The temptation to misuse and steal mobile telephones decreases when it is known that said telephones have a limited operating time, after which they will not function.
