  • Publication number: 20110217638
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing an optical filter for a three-dimensional image display device, which forms an alignment layer having different orientating directions along a fine region via a one-time continuous optical orientation process. The method comprising: forming a polymer layer on a substrate; a photo-orienting step comprising positioning a pattern mask above the polymer layer, the pattern mask having alternating light transmission regions and light shield regions arranged in both horizontal and a vertical directions to selectively transmit different polarized light, positioning a polarizer above the pattern mask where the polarizer has two distinguishable regions that transmit different polarized light, and downwardly irradiating UV light onto the polymer layer from above the polarizer, thereby forming an alignment layer having different orientating directions in fine regions of the polymer layer; and forming a retardation layer on the orientation layer.

  • Patent number: 7985358
Abstract: There is provided a process of making a mold for optical films. The process of making a mold for optical films comprises: etching a stereostructure in a surface of the mold having a flat surface or an engraved convex and concave surface, by using a laser beam. The process of making a mold for optical films may be useful to easily mark spots, to control the height of protrusions and the position where the protrusions are formed, and also to form the protrusions having constant depths even in a curved surface such as a convex and concave surface.

  • Publication number: 20100321787
Abstract: There is provided an optical film for backlight units or illuminators. The optical film comprises a light-incident portion and a light exit portion. Here, the optical film is characterized in that it comprises a plurality of protrusions formed on at least one of the light-incident portion and the light exit portion, wherein a plurality of the protrusions satisfies the requirements of the following Equation: 80×H1/3 ?P?200×H1/3 and 0.I×D?H?D, provided that a mean diameter of protrusions is represented by ‘D’, a mean height of protrusions is represented by 1H’, and a mean distance between adjacent protrusions is represented by ‘P’. Therefore, the optical film may be useful to suppress blocking between films and the formation of surface defects, which are caused by the Moire, Newton ring and wet-out phenomena, without degrading the brightness.

  • Publication number: 20100232142
Abstract: There is provided a condensing film for an LCD backlight unit. The condensing film including a film unit; a light outgoing unit formed in an upper surface of the film unit; and a light ingoing unit formed in a lower surface of the film unit, wherein a light diffuser is included inside the condensing film. The condensing film may be useful to widen a viewing angle and prevent the formation of hot bands by improving luminance distribution characteristics of light emitted from the condensing film since the condensing film includes a light diffuser capable of diffusing the light.

  • Publication number: 20100045897
Abstract: There is provided a condensing film for an LCD backlight unit. The condensing film includes a base member unit; a condenser unit disposed in an upper surface of the base member unit and having unit lens groups sequentially arranged thereon, each of the unit lens group being composed of a combination of at least two lenses that are different in shape; and a reflector unit disposed in a lower surface of the base member unit and composed of an opening through which light passes and a reflective surface from which the light reflects. The condensing film configured thus may be useful to solve the problems regarding the viewing angle and the uniformity in brightness of a screen since the condensing film has a more moderate distribution of emitted light than the conventional condensing films.
