  • Publication number: 20100152297
Abstract: The present invention relates to a composition for inhibiting cellular senescence, comprising N-[2-(cyclohexyloxyl)-4-nitrophenyl]-methanesulfonamide. During the progression of cellular senescence, the expression of COX-2 was decreased, whereas the enzymatic activity of COX-2 was increased, and the cellular senescence regulatory effects of the three selective COX-2 inhibitors had no connection with the concentration of intracellular reactive oxygen species, the activity of NF-?B and the amounts of p53 and p21 proteins. Rather, it was found that the three selective COX-2 inhibitors regulated the expression of caveolin-1 at the transcriptional level and regulated the intracellular total cholesterol concentration, and these results were closely connected with the cellular senescence regulatory effects of the three selective COX-2 inhibitors.

  • Patent number: 5981617
Abstract: A multi-step process that yields a gas permeable contact lens that is more comfortable to wear due to an increased amount of moisture retention between the cornea and the lens and that also provides an increased amount of oxygen to the cornea to prevent the many potential problems occurring due to insufficient oxygen in the cornea area. The process entails exposure of the concave side of a gas permeable contact lens to far infrared light, thereby creating an electron deficiency on the concave side of the lens (the side which contacts the cornea). This electron deficiency drives a surface reaction upon the lens that produces water and oxygen as products, thereby providing the oxygen and moisture. Subsequent steps in the process are similar, although each subsequent exposure results in greater electron depletion of the concave side of the contact lens, thereby causing the contact lens to be increasingly effective in retaining moisture and oxygen with each additional exposure.

  • Patent number: 5881674
Abstract: A process for preparing the interior surfaces of aquariums with debris-repellant properties, comprising the irradiation of a surface by far infrared light, thereby inducing an electron deficiency upon the surface. Dirt particles are repelled by the positively charged surface, since most dust particles have positively charged centers. The negatively charged periphery of said dust particles adhere to the positively charged surface, but the attractive forces between the surface and the dirt particles are too weak to overcome gravitational forces which cause the particles to fall off or float away from the surface. In addition, the electron deficiency on the inner surface of the aquarium drives a surface reaction which produces oxygen. This evolving of gas from the inner surface further repels the adherence of debris particles and provides a healthy atmosphere for fish dwelling in the aquarium.

  • Patent number: 5827924
Abstract: This invention relates to polymer sealant microencapsulated by polyurethane reaction and its binder solution, particularly employing threaded mechanical fasteners such as bolt-nuts, screws, pipe joints and threaded nails, etc. The microcapsules are prepared by interfacial polyurethane reaction of triisocyanate with poly-functional alcohol under the aqueous oil-droplets solution containing vinyl monomers, oligomers, redox initiators and organic solvents together as core materials of the microcapsules. The binder solution of the microcapsules is prepared by dissolving chloroprene, polyester acrylate, urethane acrylate, carboxyl- or hydroxy-modified vinylchloride-vinylacetate copolymer, coinitiators and fillers in a mixture of tetrachloroethylene and toluene.
