  • Publication number: 20030099180
Abstract: Herein disclosed are an apparatus and method for encoding a wobble signal to be recorded on an optical disc, and an apparatus and method for decoding a wobble signal read from the optical disc. The encoding apparatus performs a minimum shift keying modulation operation for a wobble signal to be recorded as physical address information on a writable optical disc, by adjusting a first frequency f1 and second frequency f2 of the wobble signal with coherence. Therefore, a peak point of the wobble signal is formed at a point of time that the frequencies change. The decoding apparatus band pass filters an analog wobble signal read from the optical disc, converts the filtered wobble signal into a digital wobble signal, detects a peak point of the converted digital wobble signal, outputs a peak detection signal with a level transition at the detected peak point, and detects/outputs original wobble data on the basis of the outputted peak detection signal.

  • Publication number: 20030093749
Abstract: Disclosed are a method for recording address information on an optical recording medium, an optical recording medium including address information recorded thereon by the same method, and a method for detecting the address information recorded on the optical recording medium. Physical address information of the recordable optical recording medium is encoded by inserting a synchronous code in a head of each of sectors in an error correction code block unit including a predetermined number of sectors. After the encoded physical address information is modulated into a wobble signal, a wobble-shaped groove is formed on the optical recording medium, using the wobble signal. This configuration allows sector-by-sector addressing operation without reducing the data recording capacity of the optical recording medium for recording real data.

  • Publication number: 20030093745
Abstract: The present invention relates to method and apparatus that records/reproduces data to/from an optical disk to rearrange user data such as video and/or audio data or to restore original data order by scanning each ECC block in a U-pattern. The present method arranges data in a data block in U-pattern scanning order on the block to randomize data sequence, and records the data block, of which data order has been randomized, sequentially along a track of a writable disk, whereby it is possible to recover individually a long burst error due to track-wise scratch, dust, fingerprint, or the like because an burst-error is scattered in a restored ECC block.

  • Publication number: 20030086349
Abstract: Disclosed are a method for recording address information on an optical recording medium, an optical recording medium including address information recorded thereon by the same method, and a method for detecting the address information recorded on the optical recording medium. The address information is recorded on the optical recording medium by such a procedure that physical address information of the optical recording medium is ASK (Amplitude Shift Keying)-modulated so as to convert the physical address information to a wobble signal, and then a wobble-shaped recording track is formed on the optical recording medium using the converted wobble signal, thereby recording the physical address information on the recording medium. Therefore, physical address information can be accurately decoded using a phase locked loop circuit and a wobble signal detecting circuit having a simple configuration, without reducing the data recording capacity of the optical recording medium.

  • Patent number: 6531968
Abstract: A digital data modulating method wherein the last unit of a block consisting of predetermined units is received and a block is obtained which does not infringe A k-constraint in AN RLL code having (d, k) constraints on the basis of a modulation data table of a predetermined unit. A source code word to be modulated to a code word can be quickly and accurately determined while satisfying the (d, k) constraint of the RLL code between the blocks having a predetermined size.

  • Publication number: 20020167425
Abstract: A method for modulating digital data and apparatus therefor is capable of determining digital data stream coded by Run Length Limited (hereinafter as RLL) swiftly and precisely so as to record data in a record medium. To achieve the method and apparatus, the digital data modulating method includes the steps of comparing a preset critical value and DSV of a certain digital data stream, computing the penalty of the digital data stream by multiplying the number of the time that the DSV of the digital data stream is larger than the critical value by a preset weight value of the critical value and comparing the penalty of the digital data and a penalty of another digital data stream and determining a digital data stream with a smaller penalty for the digital data stream.

  • Publication number: 20020136338
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of inserting sync patterns of different lengths in modulated data, and a recording medium having sync patterns produced by said method. The sector sync and the frame sync pattern to be inserted in modulated data in accordance with the present invention must satisfy the given (d, k) constraints, have distinctive 0's run the modulated channel data can not have, and be as short as it can. In addition, the frame sync pattern is shorter than the sector sync pattern because the frame sync pattern is more frequently inserted than the sector one. Owing to the present sync patterns, the storage capacity reduction of a recording medium due to necessary insertion of sync patterns can be minimized under a given modulation condition.

  • Publication number: 20020008646
Abstract: The present invention relates to method and apparatus of converting a series of data words into modulated signals. This ethod generates for each data word a number of intermediate sequences by combining mutually different digital words with that data word, scrambles these intermediate sequences to form alternative sequences, translates each alternative sequence into a (d,k) constrained sequence, checks whether each (d,k) constrained sequence contains undesired sub-sequence of more than kSET “0”s where kSET is smaller than k, and selects one (d,k) constrained sequence for recording on an optical or magneto-optical recording medium among the (d,k) constrained sequences not having the undesired sub-sequence, thereby recording edge information more frequently which will result in stable clock while conducting DSV control normally.
