  • Publication number: 20050164285
Abstract: A sensor for determining the presence of an analyte is disclosed comprising a reactive layer disposed between a base plate and a movable plate. The reactive layer is configured to interact with an analyte effecting a change in capacitance between the base plate and movable plate. When the analyte has a polarity or overall Hildebrand solubility parameter that is similar to the reactive layer, the change in capacitance is caused by a swelling of the reactive layer as analyte is absorbed into the reactive layer. This results in a decrease in capacitance. When the analyte has a solubility parameter not near the reactive layer, the absorbed analyte causes the reactive layer's total polarity to increase, an effect that dominates swelling. This causes an increase in capacitance. A capacitive sensing circuit is included for measuring the change in capacitance which is indicative of the analyte exposed to the sensor.

  • Publication number: 20040027092
Abstract: An electric circuit for equalizing voltages between serially arranged cells. The circuit is operable to generate AC voltages at amplitudes dependent on the DC voltages of the received cells. The AC voltages are all connected to an inductive coupling circuit. The inductive coupling allows higher-voltage cells to induce a recharging current flow in lower voltage cells and so equalize the cell voltages. The circuit also operates to ensure that cell voltages are maintained in equilibrium during charging or discharging of received cells, irrespective of the individual charging and discharging characteristics of the cells. The circuit thus prevents individual cells in a battery from being over-charged or over-discharged and allows more efficient use of the full capacity of a battery without risking damage to the individual cells. The cell equalizing circuit is thus especially useful for rechargeable cells, such as lithium-ion cells, which are sensitive to damage by over-charging and over-discharging.

  • Patent number: 6662293
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that selects instructions to be executed in a computer system that supports out-of-order execution of program instructions. The system receives dependency information for a first instruction. This dependency information identifies preceding instructions in the execution stream of a program that need to complete before the first instruction can be executed. The system divides this dependency information into a recent set and a less recent set. The recent set includes dependency information for a block of instructions immediately preceding the first instruction that need to complete before the first instruction can be executed. The less recent set includes dependency information for instructions not in the block of instructions immediately preceding the first instruction that need to complete before the first instruction can be executed.

  • Patent number: 6627354
Abstract: A photorecording medium contains a polymeric matrix, typically cross-linked to provide a desired level of physical stability, and a photoimageable system containing a photoactive monomer. Unlike previous polymer media, which tend to contain a substantially homogeneous dispersion of photoimageable system and matrix polymer, the matrix and photoimageable system of the invention are phase separated, yet still exhibit low light scattering such that useful holographic properties are possible.

  • Publication number: 20030172253
Abstract: According to an embodiment of the present invention, a method and apparatus is described for selecting dependencies between a fast scoreboard and a slow scoreboard in an out of order processor. The processor fetches instructions in groups eight instructions. Each group of eight instructions is mod-eight rotated. The instructions in the scoreboards are configured into multiple octets. A select mask for the first instruction of each octet is generated using a predefined truth table. The select masks for remaining instructions in the octets are generated using the first mask. The write pointer for the current instruction is used to select the masks for the group of eight instructions. The selected masks are then used to multiplex dependencies between the scoreboards. The selected masks are configured to multiplex dependencies between the scoreboards for single or multi-strand operations.

  • Patent number: 6615343
Abstract: A method of handling an exception in a processor includes setting a state upon detection of an exception, signaling a trap for the exception if the state is set, and based on a class of the exception, processing the exception differently before signaling the trap. The method may include replaying an instruction causing the exception before signaling the trap for the exception based on the class of the exception. The method may include replaying the instruction causing the exception after the instruction causing the exception becomes an oldest, unretired instruction. The method may include signaling the trap for the exception after an instruction causing the exception becomes an oldest, unretired instruction. The method may include marking an instruction causing the exception as complete without issuing the instruction causing the exception.
