  • Patent number: 8930804
Abstract: A system for selecting a candidate advertisement for linking to a web page based on the content of the web page. The content of the web page may be automatically determined and then compared to content of the candidate advertisement to determine which candidate advertisement to select. The system can be used to implement a structured advertising system for the World Wide Web. Web pages are searched and indexed, producing indexed content data. This indexed content data may be ranked according to relevancy. The ranked content data are compared to content data of advertisements and an advertisement is selected. The advertisement may be copied onto (linked to) the Web page. Other embodiments may be described and claimed.

  • Patent number: 8926681
Abstract: A generally spherical vascular remodeling device is permanently positionable at a junction of afferent and efferent vessels of a bifurcation having an aneurysm. After positioning the device at the junction to substantially conform the device to the shape of the junction, the device acts as a scaffolding to inhibit herniation of objects out of the aneurysm and permits perfusion to the efferent vessels. Positioning the device may include deployment and mechanical or electrolytic release from a catheter. Embolic material may be inserted in the aneurysm before or after positioning the device. The device may have a first end, a second end substantially opposite to the first end, and a plurality of polymer filaments extending between and coupled at the first end and the second end. Such devices may be football shaped, pumpkin shaped, or twisted. The device may include a plurality of polymer loops forming a generally spherical shape.

  • Patent number: 8927387
Abstract: A thin BOX ETSOI device with robust isolation and method of manufacturing. The method includes providing a wafer with at least a pad layer overlying a first semiconductor layer overlying an oxide layer overlying a second semiconductor layer, wherein the first semiconductor layer has a thickness of 10 nm or less. The process continues with etching a shallow trench into the wafer, extending partially into the second semiconductor layer and forming first spacers on the sidewalls of said shallow trench. After spacer formation, the process continues by etching an area directly below and between the first spacers, exposing the underside of the first spacers, forming second spacers covering all exposed portions of the first spacers, wherein the pad oxide layer is removed, and forming a gate structure over the first semiconductor wafer.

  • Publication number: 20150001598
Abstract: After formation of a silicon nitride gate spacer and a silicon nitride liner overlying a disposable gate structure, a dielectric material layer is deposited, which includes a dielectric material that is not prone to material loss during subsequent exposure to wet or dry etch chemicals employed to remove disposable gate materials in the disposable gate structure. The dielectric material can be a spin-on dielectric material or can be a dielectric metal oxide material. The dielectric material layer and the silicon nitride liner are planarized to provide a planarized dielectric surface in which the disposable gate materials are physically exposed. Surfaces of the planarized dielectric layer is not recessed relative to surfaces of the silicon nitride layer during removal of the disposable gate materials and prior to formation of replacement gate structures, thereby preventing formation of metallic stringers.

  • Publication number: 20150006295
Abstract: During a targeting technique, a machine-learning model is generated based on information about previous advertising campaigns and attributes in profiles of users of a social network (which facilitates interactions among the users). The information about the previous advertising campaigns includes specified target groups and associated feedback metrics obtained from individuals, such as impressions served, clicks and/or conversions. This machine-learning model is then used to calculate scores for the users based on attributes in their profiles and/or user behaviors (such as online activities) that indicate probabilities of their responding to a future advertising campaign for a target group. Moreover, based on the calculated scores, a subset of the users is associated with the target group. For example, the users may be ranked based on their calculated scores, and the subset may be those users having scores exceeding a threshold or a predefined value.

  • Publication number: 20150006286
Abstract: During a targeting technique, a machine model is generated based on content-interaction data that specifies interactions of users of a social network, with categorical content corresponding to predefined interest segments. The content-interaction data may include viewing of the categorical content and sharing of the categorical content with other users of the social network. This machine-learning model is then used to calculate scores for the users based on the attributes in their profiles that indicate probabilities of their interest in additional categorical content. Moreover, based on the calculated scores, a subset of the users is associated with an interest segment. For example, the users may be ranked based on their calculated scores, and the subset may be those users having scores exceeding a threshold or a predefined value. Furthermore, advertisements may be targeted to the users in the subset based on the association with the interest segment.

  • Publication number: 20150000851
Abstract: A method of making a wiper/towel product includes compactively dewatering a nascent web having cellulosic microfibers and an apparently random fiber distribution. The dewatered web is applied to a transfer surface. The web is belt-creped from the transfer surface utilizing a polymeric creping belt having perforations. The belt-creping step occurs under pressure in a belt creping nip. The web is dried to form a dried web having a plurality of fiber-enriched hollow domed regions protruding from an upper side of the web. The hollow domed regions have a sidewall of a relatively high local basis weight formed along at least a leading edge. The web also has connecting regions of a relatively lower local basis weight forming a network interconnecting the hollow domed regions, and transition areas provided with upwardly and inwardly inflected consolidated fibrous regions that transition from the connecting regions into the sidewalls of the domed regions.

  • Patent number: 8924610
Abstract: SAS/SATA Store-Forward (SSSF) buffering enables SAS/SATA block storage devices capable of slower physical link rates to transfer data at a SAS topology data rate. 6 Gbps SAS and SATA disk drives can exchange data at 12 Gbps with 12 Gbps hosts through 12 Gbps SAS expanders employing an SSSF device. The SSSF device improves data transfer performance in the storage area network by optimizing host-side link utilization. The device includes a host-side interface communicating with the host at a host-side rate, a drive-side interface communicating with the target at a drive-side rate equal to or less than the host-side rate, a buffer receiving SAS frames or SATA FIS's, and control logic to control communication between the host-side interface and buffer at the host-side rate and between the drive-side interface and the buffer at the drive-side rate.

  • Patent number: 8924029
Abstract: A method includes obtaining a model associated with production of natural gas from a well, where the well has a choke valve that controls flow of material including natural gas from the well. The method also includes identifying, using the model, a solution that increases an amount of natural gas obtained from the well over a specified time horizon. In addition, the method includes adjusting operation of the choke valve based on the identified solution. The model could be generated using geological data associated with the well and/or historical data associated with natural gas production from the well. A natural gas reservoir can be modeled as a continuous stirred bed with a rock or shale void fraction using mass or volumetric unit balances. Gas content versus pressure for the well can be plotted, and Langmuir adsorption parameters for the well can be identified using the plotted gas content versus pressure.

  • Patent number: 8923157
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate enhanced resource scheduling for a wireless communication system. As described herein, packets associated with a common flow that arrive within a predetermined time period following a leading packet associated with the flow can be grouped into respective packet bursts. Subsequently, system bandwidth, transmit power, and/or other communication resources can be scheduled based on an analysis of the respective packet bursts. As provided herein, by analyzing respective packet bursts in lieu of individual packets, computational and resource overhead required for resource scheduling can be significantly reduced. In one example described herein, a resource schedule is determined by selecting one or more flows to be assigned bandwidth from among a plurality of flows based on an analysis of packet bursts respectively associated with the flows.
