  • Publication number: 20070073989
Abstract: A method and apparatus for efficient data storage and management in order to reduce battery consumption in a mobile device are disclosed. Two data stores, an unorganized store and an organized store, are provided in the mobile device. The unorganized store stores a data in as-it-arrives basis. The organized store stores data in a way that is more efficient for data search and retrieval. A controller controls the unorganized store and the organized store such that new data is stored in the unorganized store while the mobile device is battery powered and moved to the organized store while the mobile device is powered by an external power source. The data is retrieved from the organized store once the data is moved to the organized store.

  • Publication number: 20070055862
Abstract: A method and system for distributing data to at least one communication device are disclosed. When multiple communication devices request the same data, a seeder sends a different piece of the data to each communication device and the communication devices share the piece of data each other by using a wireless connection established between them. The communication devices automatically suspend and resume downloading of the piece of the data from other communication devices as the communication device performs a handover. The receiver may be given super-distribution rights. When a destination communication device requests data, a content provider identifies a source communication device which possesses the same data and has the source communication device to forward the data to the destination communication device. The source communication device re-encrypts the data with a new encryption key and the destination communication device obtains a license from a rights issuer to decrypt the data.

  • Publication number: 20060195629
Abstract: A method is provided for transmitting data from a transmitting device (121) to a receiving device (125). The transmitting device transmits a first data frame (200) to a receiving device a first time (3100). Then it consecutively transmits the first data frame to the receiving device second through Nth times (3101-310N), each of second through Nth first data frame transmissions being made a first predetermined time period (350) after a respective previous first data frame transmission. After this, the transmitting device transmits a second data frame (200) to the receiving device a second predetermined time period (360) after the Nth first data frame transmission. In this method, N is an integer greater than 1, and the second predetermined time period is less than the first predetermined time period.

  • Publication number: 20060166683
Abstract: Disclosed are a method and a system for simultaneous direct link communications among a plurality of devices associated with a wireless network. Each associated device has a radio range, within which it can transmit information or data to other associated devices. Each device creates a list of devices that are located within its radio range, called in-range devices. Also, a list of devices that are located outside the radio range, called out-of-range devices, is created for each associated device. Based on the lists of in-range devices and out-of-range devices, the network coordinator, which is one of the wireless devices, determines two or more pairs of devices that can communicate at the same time without radio interference. The network coordinator determines maximum number of pairs in accordance with an algorithm based on a maximum matching problem.

  • Publication number: 20060159118
Abstract: A method is provided for a master device (601) to allocate channel time. The master device sends a polling frame (240) to a current destination slave device (602) and a current polled slave device (603). The polling frame includes a current destination slave device address (350), a current polled slave device address (360), and a current payload (330). The master device receives a poll acknowledgement frame (280) if the current polled slave device does not wish to transmit data. However, if no poll acknowledgement frame is received, the master device waits for a set duration then sets the current destination device address to be equal to a new destination device address, sets the current polled device address to be equal to a new polled slave device address, and sets a current payload to be equal to a new payload. This can be repeated until a channel time allocation ends.

  • Publication number: 20060140409
Abstract: A method and apparatus for preventing the transfer of unauthorized data among a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), an external network, and at least one access point in a wireless communication system includes the WTRU recording a subject and storing the recording as data in a memory of the WTRU. The WTRU transmits the data to the access point. The access point examines the data to determine if the data is allowed for transfer to the external network.

  • Publication number: 20050265371
Abstract: A method and system for acknowledging the receipt of a transmitted data stream in a wireless personal area network (WPAN) are disclosed. In one embodiment, a plurality of medium access control (MAC) protocol data units (MPDUs) are transmitted from a transmitting party to a receiving party, and the receiving entity sends a delayed acknowledgment frame to the transmitting party using a bitmap field for each of the fragmented packets instead of using two bytes of an MPDU block for acknowledging each received MPDU. The bitmap field includes a plurality of bitmap values corresponding to the plurality of MPDUs, and each of the plurality of bitmap values is indicative of whether each of the MPDUs is received or not.

  • Publication number: 20050238054
Abstract: A method and system for acknowledging the receipt of a transmitted data stream in a wireless local area network (WLAN) are disclosed. One aspect of the invention provides a system and method of acknowledging the receipt of a transmitted data stream in a wireless local area network, wherein the system sends a single acknowledgement to the transmitting party after all of the fragment packets, which belong to a sequence, are received in the receiving party. Another aspect of the invention provides a system and method of confirming the receipt of a transmitted data stream in a wireless local area network, wherein the system transmits a plurality of fragment packets without waiting for an acknowledgement for each fragment packet from the receiving party.
