  • Patent number: 10327267
Abstract: As IMS-based sessions are established for UEs served by a relay base station, the IMS platform will signal to a core network to request setup of bearers for carrying traffic of the IMS-based sessions and will identify the relay base station serving the UEs. Based on this IMS signaling messages identifying the relay base station serving the UEs for which the bearers are being set up, the core network will track a count of such bearers established for UEs served by the relay base station. And upon detecting that the tracked count reaches a threshold level, the core network will trigger adjustment of a maximum bit rate and/or other QoS attribute of a relay bearer established for providing aggregate wireless backhaul connectivity for the relay base station.

  • Patent number: 10070477
Abstract: A wireless communication network modifies a non-Guaranteed Bit Rate (non-GBR) bearer through a wireless repeater chain into a Guaranteed Bit Rate (GBR) bearer. A wireless access node exchanges user data with User Equipment (UE) over the non-GBR bearer through the wireless repeater chain. The wireless node monitors latency of the user data exchange over the non-GBR bearer through the wireless repeater chain. When the latency of the non-GBR bearer through the wireless repeater chain exceeds a latency threshold, the wireless node transfers a bearer modification request for the UE to a core packet network. The wireless node receives a bearer modification instruction for the UE from the core packet network to modify the non-GBR bearer into a GBR bearer. In response, the wireless node modifies the non-GBR bearer into the GBR bearer and exchanges user data with the UE over the GBR bearer through the wireless repeater chain.

  • Patent number: 10051525
Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for a base station to manage air interface communications with a user equipment device (UE) served by the base station. The base station will determine whether the served UE is a relay-UE that provides wireless backhaul connectivity for a relay base station and whether the relay base station serves at least a threshold extent of delay-sensitive communication traffic. Based on a determination that the served UE is a relay-UE and that the relay base station serves at least the threshold extent of delay-sensitive communication traffic, the base station will responsively cause the relay-UE to be served by the base station on a particular carrier frequency, in an effort to reduce a total delay resulting from the wireless relay arrangement.

  • Patent number: 9924434
Abstract: A wireless communication device (WCD) transmits to a first serving system a data-connection request that requests a packet data connection. A mobility management entity (MME) determines that an authentication procedure for authenticating the WCD for the requested packet data connection is unavailable. In response, the MME initiates a handover of the WCD from the first serving system to a second serving system. The first and second serving systems use different air interface protocols. When the handover has been successfully completed, the MME stores an indication that the WCD has been diverted to the second serving system. The MME may subsequently determine that the authentication procedure has become available. In response, the MME determines whether the WCD is associated with a valid subscriber profile. If so, the MME requests the second serving system to invite the WCD to connect to the first serving system.
