  • Publication number: 20080056170
Abstract: A common control channel is monitored with a first and a second receiver. A target quality is determined for that channel, which may be signaled from a network. A quality parameter for the channel is determined from the first and second receivers, and compared to the target quality (directly or indirectly). Responsive to the comparing, one of the receivers is then operated in a reduced performance mode which consumes less power, for which several examples are disclosed. The comparison for switching from full to reduced and back to full may use different thresholds, which may be dynamically adjusted autonomous of the network to maintain the target quality. The common control channel may be one with which a broadcast traffic channel is associated. Methods, apparatus and computer programs embodied on a memory are detailed.

  • Publication number: 20070291729
Abstract: A method, receiving device, network element, system and computer program product for controlling discontinuous reception at a receiving device of a communication network are disclosed. A regular discontinuous reception cycle of a discontinuous reception scheme is set, and this regular discontinuous reception cycle is switched to a shorter temporary discontinuous reception cycle or is switched off, in response to an event which triggers a reply of the communication network to the receiving device. Thereby, delays of network replies can be shortened or controlled in case discontinuous reception (DRX) cycles are implemented at the receiving device.

  • Publication number: 20070202902
Abstract: A mobile node, method, apparatus and system for neighbor cell identification and measurements in a wireless network. A first synchronization signal is provided a first base station, wherein the received first synchronization signal is on a predetermined frequency of a transmission bandwidth. Initial synchronization is performed. A second synchronization signal is provided, wherein the second synchronization signal is outside of the predetermined frequency of the transmission bandwidth. Neighbor cell identification based on the received second synchronization signal.

  • Publication number: 20070129017
Abstract: A method includes determining a first time period during which evaluation should be performed of whether a received radio frequency signal meets at least one criterion, the first time period based at least partially on a second time period of discontinuous reception or transmission. The method also includes performing the evaluation of the received radio frequency signal using measurements obtained within the first time period, and determining, based on the evaluation, whether an event should be triggered. The method further includes triggering the event in response to a determination that the event should be triggered.

  • Publication number: 20060246907
Abstract: A method includes establishing a first radio link with a serving network entity and a second radio link with a target network entity, commencing a soft handover from the serving network entity to the target network entity, receiving a quality target from a network comprising the serving and target network entities, and applying the quality target only to the first radio link to generate a power control command.

  • Publication number: 20060089104
Abstract: This invention describes a method for a new methodology for improving a high speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH) transport format allocation in communication systems (e.g., mobile phone networks) using, e.g., a network element such as a node B. As CQI (channel quality indicator) reports made by a user terminal) are time stamped in a sense that they correspond to a given reference period, the Node B is able to determine what time instant in the past the given CQI report corresponds to. As the Node B scheduler knows a history of HS-DSCH (high speed downlink shared channel) transmission, it is able to determine how much HS-DSCH power was transmitted during the time corresponding to the received CQI report. Based on this information, it determines the bias required to the CQI reports received at different times to improve an accuracy of the allocated HS-DSCH transport format.

  • Publication number: 20060009253
Abstract: This invention describes a method for a cell reselection by a mobile station from a serving GERAN cell supported by a GSM/EDGE (global system for mobile communications/enhanced data rates for GSM evolution) radio access network (GERAN) to a UTRAN cell supported by a universal terrestrial radio access network (UTRAN). According to a first embodiment of the invention, the intended intersystem reselection behavior is reached without signaling changes. This can be a preferred mode for early implementations because signaling changes always take a longer time to reach the products on the field (both mobile and network updates are normally required). According to a second embodiment of the invention, the flexibility of signaling changes is used for an advantage.

  • Publication number: 20050250510
Abstract: A wireless communication terminal (10) having a plurality of radio receiver branches (11a-c) all ordinarily for use in receiving a downlink frequency from a radio access network (15), but configured to intermittently tune one or another of the branches (11a-c) to a non-downlink frequency (causing reduced receiver performance in receiving the downlink frequency), but doing so only when expected by the radio access network (15) (or other entity of a wireless communication network with which the wireless communication terminal is in wireless communication).

  • Publication number: 20050245206
Abstract: The use of the STTD is enabled in a network so that the common channels (CPICH etc.) do not need to be transmitted using transmit diversity, but the STTD can be enabled only for channels having dedicated pilots and which are intended for the UEs supporting this functionality. Other UEs not supporting transmit diversity can use the common channels as usual. In normal transmit diversity operation the UE will use the CPICH transmitted from both antennas as a phase reference. In the proposed method some of the common channels including CPICH are transmitted without transmit diversity even though the STTD is used on channels having dedicated pilots and which are intended for the UEs supporting this functionality.

  • Publication number: 20050245260
Abstract: A method to control cell selection and/or re-selection in a communication system comprising a plurality of cells with which terminal devices may communicate, the method including the steps of: determining that a terminal device is to start a session for a certain service, the service using a reception frequency; based on that determination, changing at least one cell selection and/or re-selection parameter in respect of the terminal device with the effect that a subsequent cell selection and/or re-selection performed by the device would favor cells that use the reception frequency used in the service session over other cells.
