    Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for enabling machine type communication in a long term evolution (LTE) network environment. In one embodiment, a Physical (PHY) layer of a LTE protocol stack maps data bits in resource elements of a logical channel to resource elements of a physical channel. The PHY layer identifies the data bits intended for legacy devices but mapped to a first set of resource elements of machine type communication (MTC) devices and the data bits intended for the MTC device but mapped to the second set of resource elements of the legacy devices. Accordingly, the PHY layer remaps the data bits intended for the legacy devices to the second set of resource elements and the data bits intended for the MTC devices to the first set of resource elements prior to transmission.

A user equipment sends a request to a network entity for providing availability of one or more small cells in its proximity. The network entity obtains location information associated with the user equipment and retrieves a small cell map displaying the one or more small cells from a map database. Then, the network entity determines whether the one or more small cells are in the proximity of the user equipment using the small cell map. Accordingly, the network entity provides a notification indicating availability of the one or more small cells to the user equipment. Moreover, the user equipment initiates a scan for the one or more small cells based on the received notification.

The methods includes: determining to send a paging record to a communication device for a first media service, wherein the first media service is provided on a first carrier frequency; inserting the paging record into a first message generated using a protocol that is also used to provide a second different media service to the communication device on a second different carrier frequency; providing a paging indication using the protocol; and sending the paging indication and the first message with the paging record over the second carrier frequency. The protocol can be a multimedia broadcast service (MBMS) protocol. The paging indication alerts the communication device to monitor the second carrier frequency for the paging record.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for estimating an absolute power level in a Multiple Users Reusing One Single time slot (MUROS) system are provided. The absolute value of power level of the MUROS user is received by the MUROS user from a Base Transceiver Station (BTS). The MUROS user also determines the mean value of its own signal strength. The absolute value of power level of the other user paired with the MUROS user is estimated using the received absolute value of power level of the MUROS user and the determined mean value of signal strength. The estimated absolute value of power level of the other user and the absolute value of power level of the MUROS user are further used by the MUROS user to estimate its channel. Information about the estimated channel of the MUROS user is provided to the BTS by the MUROS user and the BTS uses this information to allocate power to the two users which are paired for MUROS.

The first value of the at least one of the plurality of predefined parameters, is then monitored. Thereafter, the method relinquishes the second communication channel established using the second time slot based on the first value.

The method also includes setting a time stamp in synchronization packets based on the synchronization delay. The time stamp information may indicate a start time for synchronized transmission of the MBMS data to user equipment in the MBSFN area over an air interface. The method may further include transmitting the synchronization packets including the MBMS data and time stamp information to the relay nodes using the allocated resources such that the MBMS data is synchronously transmitted to the user equipment by the relay nodes.
