  • Patent number: 5663514
Abstract: A specific type of a human operator's gesture (such as a downward, upward or lateral swinging movement) and its movement amount (such as a speed or acceleration of the movement) is detected by a movement detector. The detected movement amount is compensated in accordance with the detected movement type, and various factors to control dynamics of a music performance (such as tone volume, color, pitch, effect etc.) are variably controlled on the basis of the compensated movement amount. At least one of minimal and maximal values indicative of the operator's repetitive gesture is selectively extracted from the output of the movement detector so that the performance tempo is controlled on the basis of a particular time point at which the selected minimal or maximal value has been extracted.

  • Patent number: 5648627
Abstract: A performance control apparatus is provided to control a manner of performance played by an electronic musical apparatus. Herein, sensors are provided to sense a swing motion of a baton which is swung by a human operator in response to time of music to be played (e.g., triple time). Then, a peak is detected from outputs of the sensors in accordance with a peak detection process using a fuzzy inference process. A kind of the swing motion is discriminated by effecting another fuzzy inference process on a result of the peak detection process. Concretely, the kind of the swing motion is discriminated as one of predetermined motions which are determined specifically with respect to time of the music. Performance control information is created based on the discriminated kind of the swing motion. Thus, a tempo and/or dynamics of performance is controlled in response to the performance control information.

  • Patent number: 5585584
Abstract: An automatic performance control apparatus provides a hand controller which contains gyro sensors in X, Y directions. The gyro sensors are employed to accurately detect hand-swing motion applied to the hand controller without being affected by gravity. When the hand controller is swung by a human operator like a conductor's baton, angular velocity applied to the hand controller is detected based on detection values of the gyro sensors. The angular velocity becomes bottom at a change point of direction in a locus of the hand-swing motion of the hand controller; and a peak of the angular velocity appears between bottoms. So, peak detection process is performed on the angular velocity to determine a beat timing designated by the human operator. If the peak is detected, beat-timing detection data are automatically created and are transmitted to an electronic musical instrument having an automatic performance function.

  • Patent number: 5448008
Abstract: In order to simulate sounds of an acoustic musical instrument such as a bowed stringed instrument, an electronic musical instrument employs a musical tone control apparatus which at least contains an operating device and a detecting circuit. Herein, when operating the operating device which can be operated in a two-dimensional area, the detecting circuit detects operation information corresponding to an operating position or an operating displacement of the operating device. Then, velocity information is generated based on the operation information. Thereafter, a musical tone is generated in response to a musical characteristic corresponding to the velocity information under a condition where the operating device is now operating. Preferably, the operating device is configured by a digitizer on which surface an electronic pen is moved two-dimensionally by the performer. Thus, it is possible to impart the varied performance expression to the musical tone to be generated.
