Abstract: An electronic musical instrument includes a performance operator such as a bar-like member, a position detection circuit for detecting a play position on the performance operator and generating position information corresponding to the play position, a circuit for selecting a desired one of a plurality of predetermined position-tone pitch conversion characteristics or establishing a desired position-tone pitch conversion characteristic with respect to the performance operator, a conversion circuit for converting the position information from the position detection circuit to tone pitch information in accordance with the position-tone pitch conversion characteristic having been selected or established and a tone generator for generating a tone signal of a tone pitch corresponding to the tone pitch information provided by the conversion circuit.

Abstract: In controlling a sound source for an electronic musical instrument, an operation data of a performance operation member corresponding to musical tone control parameters of a musical instrument is corrected according to a tone generation region characteristic of the musical instrument. The corrected data is inputted to a sound source circuit of the electronic musical instrument thereby a musical tone approximating of the musical instrument is regularly generated.

In this manner, a player of the electrical musical instrument will have the sensation of playing a conventional musical instrument due to the feedback of vibrational energy into the input device of the electronic musical instrument.

The tone generation region is approximated as a closed region defined by one or more curves. The converted data is inputted to a sound source circuit of the electronic musical instrument, so that a musical tone from pianissimo up to fortissimo can be generated sufficiently, while the musical tone approximates that of the musical instrument.

Abstract: A keyboard and a portamento bar are connected to a tone generator through a common channel assigner to use each tone generating channel either for generating a keyboard sound or for generating a portamento sound. Thus, a portamento sound can be generated without a need for providing a another tone generator. Further, such arrangement is provided that can shift the tone generation from a keyboard sound to a portamento sound and from a portamento sound to a keyboard sound, enabling initiation and termination of a portamento performance to have accurate pitches.

Abstract: There are provided a tone signal generation circuit capable of selectively generating either a normal tone signal corresponding to a selected tone color or a special tone signal corresponding to the same selected tone color but having a characteristic which is different from that of the normal tone signal, and a tone selection circuit selecting whether the normal tone signal is to be generated or the special tone signal is to be generated in this tone signal generation circuit. A tone signal having a characteristic of a tone generated by a misplay, for example, is used as the special tone signal. In case a tone is generated by depression of a key, the normal tone signal is selectively generated in most cases but the special tone signal may be selectively generated from time to time. By doing so, a tone of a misplay is occasionally generated thereby giving the impression of naturalness as if a natural musical instrument were being played.

Abstract: A circuit for adding a resonance tone to a tone signal to be generated is provided. When a damper operator is not operated, the resonance tone is not added but an ordinary tone signal is generated. When the damper operator has been operated, the resonance tone is added so that a tone signal including the resonance tone is generated. An effect of a damper operator, i.e., loud pedal, in a piano, a natural musical instrument, is thereby simulated with high fidelity. The resonance tone may be produced by passing an ordinary tone signal through a filter. Alternatively, data obtained by sampling an actually produced tone of a piano, a natural musical instrument, when a damper operator, i.e., loud pedal, is ON may be stored in a memory and a resonance tone may be generated by reading out the stored data from the memory. The signal of the generated resonance tone may be sounded by itself or after mixing with an ordinary tone signal at a suitable mixing ratio.
