  • Patent number: 5135202
Abstract: An apparatus for melting down chips of, e.g., aluminum into a molten bath of a melting furnace for, e.g., aluminum. A charging vessel (10) is installed in the molten bath (2) of the melting furnace (1), and has an opening (11) kept above the surface (3) of the molten bath, an inlet port (12) through which molten metal (2) flows from the melting furnace (1 ) into the charging vessel (10), and an outlet port (13) located below the surface (3) of the molten bath. A discharge pipe (20) is attached to the discharge side of a pump (30) for conveying the molten metal (2), and has a sidewall provided with an intake port (24) connected with the outlet port (13) of the charging vessel (10) for returning the molten metal (2) into the melting furnace (1) through the discharge pipe (20). The apparatus can realize a drastically improved efficiency in melting chips (5), while preventing the oxidation of the chips (5).

  • Patent number: 4922673
Abstract: A fixture for supporting a pole in a gymnasium floor comprises a frame on which a pair of hinged lid members are supported. The hinged lid members are each formed with a flat rectangular piece and a piece comprising a semicircular recess and are slidable along tracks so that while the upper surface of the semicircular recessed pieces are flush with the floor the rectangular pieces hang vertically beneath the floor and while the rectangular pieces are flush with the floor the semicircular recessed pieces hang vertically beneath the floor. The semicircular pieces cooperate to define an opening through which the pole can be received and the rectangular pieces cooperative to cover the opening. With this arrangement, no part of the fitting protrudes from the floor so as to pose a hazard.

  • Patent number: 4746712
Abstract: A process for producing an olefin copolymer rubber by slurry-polymerizing ethylene, at least one .alpha.-olefin and at least one non-conjugated diene in a poor solvent for the copolymer in the presence of a catalyst consisting of an organometallic compound (the first component) and a transition metal compound (the second component), characterized by using, an organoaluminum compound as the first component of the catalyst, and using, as the second component, a modified vanadium compound obtained by contacting a vanadium compound with at least one compound selected from the group consisting of the compounds represented by the following formulas: ##STR1## wherein R is a hydrocarbon group of 1 to 20 carbon atoms and X.sub.1, X.sub.2 and X.sub.3 are independently halogen atoms or alkoxyl groups. This process can prevent a gel from being formed during polymerization.

  • Patent number: 4581431
Abstract: A process for purifying a rubbery polymer by removing a catalyst residue from a rubbery polymer containing the catalyst residue obtained by polymerizing in slurry ethylene and an .alpha.-olefin or ethylene, an .alpha.-olefin and a non-conjugated diene in a poor solvent with a catalyst consisting of an organoaluminum compound and a transition metal compound, characterized in that the removal of the catalyst residue is conducted by water extraction consisting of(1) adding a good solvent and a surface active agent to the polymer slurry in the first step, and(2) adding water to the slurry obtained in above (1) in second step. This process enables the catalyst residue to be removed from EPDM in a very high efficiency.

  • Patent number: 3966889
Abstract: Selenium is recovered from combustion waste gas, especially the combustion waste gas evolved from glass melting furnaces by a process in which the waste gas is contacted with an absorbing solution containing an alkali metal sulfite or bisulfite, whereby metallic selenium and selenium compounds are absorbed, the temperature of the waste gas is decreased and the humidity of the waste gas is increased. The treated waste gas in then passed through a moist glass fiber filter which collects the remaining amounts of selenium from the waste gas. The absorbing solution is combined with the solution used to wash the glass fiber filter and the combined solutions are treated with an acid which reduces all of the selenium present in the solution to metallic selenium which precipitates from solution.
