Patent number: 12360944Abstract: A secure data storage management “recovery system” operates in a cloud computing environment that is apart from a source system and source data being protected. A “recovery manager” in the cloud computing environment is responsible for restoring secondary copies that were generated by the source system. The recovery manager gains knowledge (metadata) about the secondary copies by restoring, for its own use, a management database of, and backed up by, the source system. The recovery manager initiates out-of-place restores of the secondary copies to “recovery clients” in the recovery cloud. The recovery system restores, to the recovery cloud, secondary copies from any cloud platform and/or from non-cloud data centers, including secondary copies stored locally, off-cloud by the source system. The recovery manager comprises new features that enforce its isolation from the source system and they act to protect the integrity of the secondary copies generated by the source system.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2023Date of Patent: July 15, 2025Assignee: Commvault Systems, Inc.Inventors: Abhinaw Kumar, Sanjay Harakhchand Kripalani, Sachin Dattatraya Dhorage, Satya Narayan Mohanty

Publication number: 20240103987Abstract: An illustrative efficient failover process and system in virtualized environment to reduce costs and resources associated with maintaining live stand-by failover scheduling and maintenance system is described herein. The illustrative embodiment uses incremental backup data to maintain a failover or passive virtualized computing platforms comprising of one or more virtual machines that are configured to and ready to be scaled up and initiated to take over the tasks and operations of a lost storage manager. Each virtualized failover or passive node is initially configured to use minimal computing resources to maintain a live backup of the active storage manager. During a failover, a passive virtual node will initiate the failover process. In an embodiment, the failover process comprises restoring a secondary copy of the lost storage manager, initiating a scale up process to increase computing resources, and continuing scheduled tasks and operations of the lost storage manager.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 27, 2023Publication date: March 28, 2024Inventors: Prasad Nara, Satya Narayan Mohanty, Koteswara Rao Bora

Publication number: 20240007505Abstract: An illustrative air-gapped data storage site for storing secure copies at the air-gapped storage site. Using specialized air-gapped media agents installed within the air-gapped storage pool site, the illustrative system, at an unpredictable time, establishes a one-way tunnel from secondary storage site to air-gapped site to receive backup copies of the data stored at primary site. In another embodiment, during disaster recovery, backup copies stored within the air-gapped site are replicated to a non-air gapped site (e.g., secondary storage pools) as “tertiary copies.” Those copies are then restored to the primary site in original application data formats for quick recovery. As restoration of data is complete, the tertiary copies are promoted to “secondary copies” to receive incremental backups.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 28, 2023Publication date: January 4, 2024Inventors: Satya Narayan MOHANTY, Hetal KAPADIA, Arun Prasad AMARENDRAN, Laskshmi N Prakash PARVATHAMVENKATAS

Patent number: 11579681Abstract: As the volume of data under management expands rapidly, so do the costs associated with storing and that data on secondary storage devices. The illustrative approach provides an improvement to the information management system by delaying certain tasks that meet a set of criteria until a specified threshold is met. The system receives a request to be performed on a set of data stored on secondary devices. Power management module determines whether the task satisfies a set of criteria for delayed execution, queues the task, and when a specified threshold of the queued tasks is met powers up the necessary components to execute the tasks.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 2019Date of Patent: February 14, 2023Assignee: Commvault Systems, Inc.Inventors: Satya Narayan Mohanty, Prasanth Manickam, Vineeth Samuel Varghese

Patent number: 11494639Abstract: Performing an adversarial attack on a neural network classifier is described. A dataset of input-output pairs is constructed, each input element of the input-output pairs randomly chosen from a search space, each output element of the input-output pairs indicating a prediction output of the neural network classifier for the corresponding input element. A Gaussian process is utilized on the dataset of input-output pairs to optimize an acquisition function to find a best perturbation input element from the dataset. The best perturbation input element is upsampled to generate an upsampled best input element. The upsampled best input element is added to an original input to generate a candidate input. The neural network classifier is queried to determine a classifier prediction for the candidate input. A score for the classifier prediction is computed. The candidate input is accepted as a successful adversarial attack responsive to the classifier prediction being incorrect.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 2019Date of Patent: November 8, 2022Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Satya Narayan Shukla, Anit Kumar Sahu, Devin Willmott, Jeremy Zieg Kolter

Publication number: 20220091742Abstract: An information management system implements a media agent that communicates with a network area storage (NAS) device to receive secondary copy data that has been backed-up by the NAS. The secondary copy data may include primary data managed or maintained by the NAS. The secondary copy data may be in a proprietary format or other data format specific to the NAS. The NAS may prepare metadata or other information about the secondary copy data that informs the media agent as to the contents of the secondary copy data. The media agent may segment the secondary copy data into one or more backup chunks for storing in a secondary storage device. In addition, each of the backup chunks may be associated with backup chunk metadata, where the backup chunk metadata includes information that describes certain information stored by a corresponding backup chunk.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 18, 2020Publication date: March 24, 2022Inventors: Duncan Alden LITTLEFIELD, Shali Sidharthan ARAKKAL, Mounika BANGARU, Ravinder Reddy NANNURI, Chiranjeevi MARELLA, Satya Narayan MOHANTY, Suhas T. Patent number: 10559385Abstract: What is disclosed is a system and method for forecasting and imputing an unknown vital measurement of a patient. Temporally successive patient vital measurements are received which comprise irregularly sampled observations {y1, . . . , yN}, where yj denotes the jth observation at time tj, and N is the number of samples. The vital measurements are then provided to a model trained using historical data of patient vital measurements. The model generates a parameter set ?=(A,B,C), where A is a state transition matrix, B is a control matrix, and C is a matrix which maps state-space variables to observation variables. The parameters are used to obtain state-space variable zt which, in turn, is used to forecast an unknown observation yN+1 or to impute an unknown observation yt, where 1<t<N. The historical data is then updated with the forecasted observation yN+1 or the imputed unknown observation yt.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 2016Date of Patent: February 11, 2020Assignee: CONDUENT BUSINESS SERVICES, LLCInventors: Abhishek Sengupta, Bhupendra Singh Solanki, Prathosh Aragulla Prasad, Vaibhav Rajan, Katerina Ocean Sinclair, Stephen Fullerton, Satya Narayan Shukla
