Abstract: A system and method for performing email processing at multiple stages along an email delivery chain. A first embodiment uses an email filter to receive information about an email message from a message transfer agent and then perform limited email pre-processing on the email message. The email filter then stores instructions and data such as the results from the email pre-processing into an internet email header added to the email message. The instructions and data placed into the email header may be encrypted for privacy and security. A later email program may extract the instructions and data from the internet email header and continue the email processing. One disclosed application of the multi-stage email processing system is email authentication.

Abstract: A system and method for identifying email campaigns. A first embodiment uses an email client local to email recipients to report email header back to an email monitor server application. The email analysis server application compares the email header information received from many sources and identifies email messages having substantially similar from addresses, subjects and dates as being part of a single email campaign. In a second embodiment, an email monitor program in a mail server local to email recipients is used to report back email header information.

Abstract: Methods and systems for authenticating and confidence marking e-mail messages are described. One embodiment describes a method of authenticating an e-mail message. This method involves extracting a plurality of e-mail headers associated with the e-mail message, and identifying a sending edge mail transfer agent (MTA). The method then calls for determining if the sending edge MTA is authorized to send the e-mail message.
