In one embodiment, a list of POIs is obtained and then filtered based on crowd data related to the list of POIs to provide a filtered list of POIs. In another embodiment, one or more crowd-sourced POIs are created based on one or more crowds relevant to a corresponding bounding region for POI creation.

Abstract: One embodiment of a technique for generating an image for a geographic location comprises receiving a current geographic location of a mobile device. The technique also includes obtaining a plurality of candidate templates, each candidate template associated with a geographic usage location defining a geographic area to which the candidate template applies. The technique also includes identifying a candidate template with a geographic usage location that matches the current geographic location of the mobile device as an identified template. The technique further includes receiving, from the mobile device, a modified image, the modified image combining in an overlapping fashion the identified template and a source image captured on the mobile device at the current geographic location of the mobile device. The technique further includes, in response to receiving the modified image from the mobile device, automatically distributing the modified image to ones of a plurality of other devices.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable medium are described for operating servers and mobile devices. A mobile device may send a template request including a geographic location to a server device. Based on the received geographic location, the server device may match the template request with a template tagged with a usage location matching the received geographic location. The server device may provide the mobile device with the template wherein the mobile device may combine the template with an image captured at the geographic location. The mobile device may provide the server device with the modified image for distribution to other mobile devices.

Abstract: Methods and Devices are disclosed for performing automatic check-ins for a user associated with a mobile device. In some embodiments, the process is completely automated with no user intervention once the process has started. In some embodiments, the user is prompted for confirmation before the check-in is generated. The automatic check-in is performed based on detecting a social context which includes a current location of the user of the mobile device and applying rules. The rules may include an action part, a condition part, and qualifier part. The rules and the individual parts of the rules may be independently editable by the user.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for obtaining secondary indications of locations of users for use by a location-based service. In one embodiment, a secondary indication of a location of one or more users is obtained from a source of secondary indications of locations of users. The secondary indication includes a location of the one or more users and timing information defining when the one or more users were or will be located at the location. The secondary indication of the location of the one or more users is then stored and utilized to provide the location-based service. In one embodiment, the secondary indication is utilized to store historical aggregate user profile data by location and/or to provide aggregate user profile data for crowds of users formed via a spatial crowd formation process.

In one embodiment, a central system, which includes one or more servers, operates to obtain current locations for users of mobile devices. The system forms a crowd including a number of users based on the current locations of the number of users using a spatial crowd formation process based on an optimal inclusion distance that is a function of density of users of the plurality of users within a bounding region. The central system then generates crowd data for the crowd and provides access to the crowd data for the crowd. In one embodiment, the crowd data for the crowd includes an aggregate profile for the crowd. In another embodiment, the crowd data includes data characterizing the crowd. The central system provides access to the crowd data by serving crowd data requests.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to systems and methods of operating a mobile communications device (MCD) associated with a user utilizing social relationships defined on a social network. In one embodiment, the MCD detects other MCDs that are in proximity with the MCD. A determination may then be made that indicates which of the users associated with the other MCDs have a defined affinity with the user of the MCD on the social network. As a result of the determination, the MCD may then communicate over wireless local area networking links with the other MCDs.

Abstract: Systems and methods for presenting a content summary of a media item to a user based on a position within the media item are disclosed herein. According to an aspect, a method may include receiving identification of a position within a media item residing on an electronic device. For example, the identified position may be a bookmarked position within an e-book residing on an e-book reader. The method may also include generating a content summary for a portion of the media item based on the identified position. For example, an electronic device may dynamically generate a content summary based on content of the e-book that precedes a bookmarked position. The method may also include presenting the content summary to a user of the electronic device. For example, a display of an electronic device may be controlled to present a content summary to a reader of an e-book.

Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for enabling a distributed group of users to collaboratively select a media item for a collaborative playback session. In one embodiment, a distributed group of users for a collaborative playback session is formed, where the distributed group of users includes a number of users located at a number of geographically distributed user sites. Each user site includes one or more media controllers having access to media content and one or more renderers that operate to render the media content. A distributed aggregate guide that includes a listing of media content accessible to the media controllers at all of the user sites is generated and utilized by users at the user sites to suggest media items for the collaborative playback session. Based on the suggestions of the users, a media item for the collaborative playback session is selected.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for facilitating contact or communication between users or participants. A profile matching process is performed to match a user profile of a first user to a user profile of a second user. A number of questions to ask the second user are automatically selected. In addition, an answer to one or more of the questions may be suggested to the second user. The questions and any suggested answers are then sent to the second user at an associated user device. A reward to be revealed to the second user in response to answering the questions may also be provided. A summary of the answers given by the second user may be provided to the first user. In response, the first user may choose to share his or her full or partial user profile, contact information, or the like with the second user.

Abstract: The claimed subject matter is directed to systems and methods for providing passive crowd-sourced alternate route recommendations. In one embodiment, locations of users of a number of mobile location-aware devices are tracked over time. Upon receiving a request, users of mobile location-aware devices that have traveled from a desired start location to a desired stop location are identified. At least one of the different routes taken by one or more users from the desired start location to the desired stop location is provided to the requestor as at least one recommended alternate route. The different routes taken by the one or more users from the desired start location to the desired stop location include routes taken that begin before the desired start location and go through the start location and routes taken that stop beyond the desired stop location and go through the desired stop location.

Abstract: A system and method for allowing a user to more effectively generate focused content results, including audio and/or video content is described. Content is dynamically filtered to generate content results in response to initial filtering settings or characteristics. The content results are provided to a user. Once the user finds and selects a content result of interest, additional filtering characteristics associated with the selected result are provided to the user as a suggestion for additional filtering. In this manner, the user is made aware of additional filtering settings or characteristics that can be used to focus the search results. Subsequent filter settings and filtering operations can be based on characteristics of previous relevant results in an iterative and dynamic manner. Focused results are more likely produced, because additional filtering settings are provided and adjusted according to characteristics of results deemed relevant by the user.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for maintaining a historical record of anonymized user profile data for mobile device users and serving historical requests. In one embodiment, a central system, which includes one or more servers, operates to obtain current locations and user profiles for users of mobile devices. The central system processes the current locations and the user profiles of the users over time to maintain a historical record of anonymized user profile data by location. By anonymizing the user data, privacy of the users of the mobile devices is maintained. The central system may then use the historical record of anonymized user profile data to respond to historical requests. The historical requests may be made by users of the mobile devices, subscribers, and/or third-party services.
